Momentum, in my case. Back in my lurker days of late 2008, i was feeling quite disillusioned with most gaming communities as they had turned against Nintendo quite severely after the E3 08 debacle, places where even the site-runners and writers were openly trolling Nintendo and no-one was really being held accountable for it (i'm really thinking about Joystiq.com here, a site that i stopped visiting altogether this year as part of a small new year's resolution). I came to this site and discovered a place where Nintendo had a positive image, and in digging through conversations, found that many of the normal arguments that slid on other sites were simply not tolerated here.
As much as we have complained and/or observed the decline of the VGChartz community, it's strength is still in its relative civility and relatively high level of discourse, and this high discourse allows Nintendo fans to breathe without constantly getting bombarded by editorials and braindead comments with an anti-Nintendo slant. Hell, even GoNintendo was infested with negative nancies and outright haters for a while, though as i continue going there for news, i've noticed that the quality of comments has picked up.
There are very few sites where Wii is given its fair share, or even acknowledged as one of the consoles (except at E3, and even then, the disparity in coverage between the Sony/Microsoft E3's and the Nintendo one is quite horrifying), and where such sites exist, the community reflects them. VGChartz and its community at the very least give Nintendo due respect, and the outright haters are dealt with justly.
