Forums - Sony - Playstation Vita Has The 2nd Most Launch Titles Of Any System In The Last 12 Years

I think the Xbox got Tony Hawk 3, not 2.

If memory serves, it got an exclusive version of Tony Hawk 2 (I think it was mixed with THPS1, too.  Gonna have to Google it) and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.  I remember being jealous because they had deeper character creation according to EGM.

Wikipedia'd it.  It was called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X.  Here ya go:

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X was released on November 14, 2001 (only in the U.S. and Canada) as a launch title for Microsoft's Xbox. The game contained remade versions of all the levels from the first two games in the Tony Hawk series, five new levels, a 4-player split screen and LAN multi-player feature and the ability to create females in Create-a-skater mode. Other new features include a redesigned main page and grind balance meter. The redesigned Philadelphia level from this version would later be reused in Tony Hawk's Underground 2.

OH YEAH! It's all coming back to me now...

Thanks.

Any takes on whose was the best? Who had the best and worst hit:garbage ratios?

Based on my uneducated impressions, quantity doesn't equal quality, but it implies it. Crappy launches like the DS and 3DS are further up, while excellent launches like the Wii and Vita are further down. There are a few exceptions (XBox launched with its killer app), but as launches go, the Vita's is very good.

That said, the VIta does have one problem: some of it's best launch titles (Rayman, Fifa, MvC3) are essentially console ports. The remaining stellar release, Lumines, is not exactly a big franchise. And games like Uncharted and Modnation Racers are critical disappointments, at least by series standards.

Now for the real test. Will these games sell systems? And what games does the Vita have coming up? Besides Silent Hill and Gravity Rush I mean.

Dreamcast USA launch was the best console launch in terms of game quality.

Soul Calibur - revolutionary fighter at the time

Sonic Adventure - Best 3D Sonic for a decade

Other must play titles for the time - House of the Dead 2, Power Stone, Marvel VS Capcom, NFL 2K

Most other launches are lucky to have 1 must play game, Dreamcast had several.

You made me remember when I got my launch Dreamcast....now I'm sad again, so I'm going to play some Soul Calibur on it to ease some of the pain.

In retrospect, the DS had an astonishingly bad launch. Say what you want about the 3DS launch, at least it had new Nintendogs and Pilotwings game to go along with the hit port. The DS's hit port was rubbish in comparison to the original.

2 days to go! Uncharted, escape plan and wipeout 2048 on day one :D

Vita may have more as i can see your already missing, Ninja Gaiden and Motorstorm RC, how many others are missing.

Well, seems like having a huge number of launch titles is the way to go. Best of luck to the Vita.

The system with the biggest sales ever is the one with the least launch titles. I don't know if it has any real effect in the long term.

the ps2 had the most launch titles....

DS is or will or has or shipped or....you get the point more the the PS2.

No, the DS didnot ship more then the PS2 and probably never will, the PS2 stands officially around +-154,5 million while DS is around 151 million. With the plummeting DS sales it looks like it won't ever outship PS2.

Hate to ruin your life, but it's actually jam not gem. Unless you have diamond encrusted doughnuts in the US (Which I wouldn't be surprised about).

Shame only about 9 of them would be the driving force behind hardware sales, just like in almost all previous console releases.

I would actually probably lower that number to about 5 per console including the vita....I don't really see 9 that are really driving forces. I'm sure there are going to be at least 9 good games but that doesn't necessarily say they will be that big.

Yeah well, I thought about it, with my avatar and the prejudice floating on this site sometimes, my comment would be irrelevant unless it somehow pleased the PS crowd. I went with 9 because some people would count even something niché as a Ben 10 as a driving force behind hardware sales. To conclude, I went on a safe side and counted the games that I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

It's a ~3M difference. DS should easily make that up in a year even with its lower sales.
