Forums - Sony - Playstation Vita Has The 2nd Most Launch Titles Of Any System In The Last 12 Years

Any takes on whose was the best? Who had the best and worst hit:garbage ratios?

Based on my uneducated impressions, quantity doesn't equal quality, but it implies it. Crappy launches like the DS and 3DS are further up, while excellent launches like the Wii and Vita are further down. There are a few exceptions (XBox launched with its killer app), but as launches go, the Vita's is very good.

That said, the VIta does have one problem: some of it's best launch titles (Rayman, Fifa, MvC3) are essentially console ports. The remaining stellar release, Lumines, is not exactly a big franchise. And games like Uncharted and Modnation Racers are critical disappointments, at least by series standards.

Now for the real test. Will these games sell systems? And what games does the Vita have coming up? Besides Silent Hill and Gravity Rush I mean.

Dreamcast USA launch was the best console launch in terms of game quality.

Soul Calibur - revolutionary fighter at the time

Sonic Adventure - Best 3D Sonic for a decade

Other must play titles for the time - House of the Dead 2, Power Stone, Marvel VS Capcom, NFL 2K

Most other launches are lucky to have 1 must play game, Dreamcast had several.

You made me remember when I got my launch Dreamcast....now I'm sad again, so I'm going to play some Soul Calibur on it to ease some of the pain.

Former something....

Great launch lineup. So far I have Little Deviants, Uncharted, Wipeout, Escape Plan, and Super Stardust Delta. Except for LD, all are must haves and I expect to be still relevant years from now.

And don't listen to reviewers about Uncharted! It may not be on the scale of uncharted 3 but it is way ahead of the first. Any Uncharted fan NEEDS to play this game.

Indeed. Those were the times my friend.

As a comparison, if someone mentions PS2 launch to me which I got at launch as well, all I remember is how awesome watching the Matrix DVD over and over was.

Only 4/11 of those systems lacked backwards compatibility with a large range of titles:

PSP
PSV
Xbox
Gamecube

So arguably they launched with fewer game titles than systems which had access to previous libraries of games.

The Vita does have reverse compatability if you bought your games via PSN. Although technically it's only 275 (and about half of them are minis and doesn't include a lot of bigger titles like Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, and Star Wars Battlefront) when the system launches so your original post still is valid in the sense that it's still below all of the others except the other 3 you mentioned.

There may just be 275 titles available on the PSN.  If that's the case, I'm wrong.  It's been verified that even it a game isn't currently on the Vita's version of the PSN, any game that you download to the PS3 (PSP, PS1, Minis) will work on the Vita.  You have the entire non-PS3 library for play on the Vita.  This is a good thing because, while I'm buying a Vita in two days, there's not a single game of those 25 that I want to buy.  I'm gonna grab Uncharted just to have something to show off.

How? I will not allow me to download FF8 from the Vita psn, do I need to move it over from my ps3? I was able to download Dissidia though.

Yeah.  Prior to my decision to get a Vita, I did a megaton of research.  Greg Miller from IGN posted a video on youtube showing that, to get a game that's not available on the Vita's PSN, all you have to do is download it with your PS3 and then transfer it to the Vita.  He even showed that you can copy your PSP saves to the PS3 and then transfer that save from the PS3 to the Vita.  He demonstrated it by downloading Peace Walker (currently not avaialble on the VIta) to his PS3, copying the game to the Vita, and then transferring his 70 hour (his words, not mine) game save from his PSP to the PS3 to the Vita.  It gave me a hard on.

Sweet, thanks!

Did they show it working though?  Cause I wanna grab Valkyrie Chronicles, Gurumin, Medievil, and a few more.

@Xbbjf9s FF8 isn't working yet cause the PSX emulator isn't up and running.

Showed it working.  Even showed the right analog support for Peace Walker.  Yes, it shall be amazing.  This is the reason why I'm getting a 32GB memory card.  Gonna port most of my PSP games to the Vita.  May even sell my PSP or give it to my cousin or nephew or something.  They'll have access to my entire library of twenty something PSP games on my PSP.  I'll have access to my entire library of twenty something PSP game on my PSV.

Well, seems like having a huge number of launch titles is the way to go. Best of luck to the Vita.

The system with the biggest sales ever is the one with the least launch titles. I don't know if it has any real effect in the long term.

the ps2 had the most launch titles....

Huh, I could have sworn the DS had the most sales ever - it certainly will in the end. In any case the DS shows that it quite possibly doesn't have any effect in the long term.

There are certain arbitrary victories that can comfort the troubled mind.  Things like having the most launch titles, having the highest selling HD re-make, or the most games that support a certain peripheral to some degree.  It doesn't matter if it makes no sense why these certain things are chosen to be victories.  Having the second most launch titles in twelve years?  It's not the most ever. It's not even the highest number in twelve years.  It's the second most.  WTF?  Just like having the highest selling "HD Remake" isn't the same as having the highest selling remake.  Just like how having the most games that support a peripheral when many of those games are not successful critically or commercially or don't support the peripheral exclusively.  All that matters is that, no matter how obscure or insignificant, it feels like a victory, even if it really doesn't matter.

I think the Xbox got Tony Hawk 3, not 2.
