Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo’s misstep with QR codes leads family to pornography

I've got to say this isn't Nintendo's fault fact is their is no app that can read every AR code in every region. Parents should be smart enough to know a QR code is meant for Nintendo apps not just any mobile app. Maybe Nintendo should use AR images in the future that only 3DS can recognize I know it would be far more expensive and harder work but then this could never happen again.

Technically, I don't even think Nintendo has one app on either Android or iOS market.  It was just a matter that they required a specific app instead of some random one this family used.  There are a few QR apps I assume on the market and they simply thought they could use anyone when that wasn't the case.

I don't think it's an app like that. Isn't this more designed Nintendo handhelds that can read QR codes. The DSi/XL and the 3DS as they have cameras.

I think it is an actual app for a cell phone.  These QR codes have been around for awhile.  So I don't think it is for an actual Nintendo system such as the DSi.  I assume to be right because I recently even got a 20th Anniversary Edition for the GBA Micro (which doesn't have internet or a camera).  It came with some papers and I noticed one that had a QR code.  This was an unopened box that was released back around 2005.

The "fine print" was actually instructions above the "QR" code.

This was something meant for a certain website that also had a general use. Therein lies the rub (no pun intended).
But it also points to the fact that people act without reading instructions.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

You know men... We don't like reading instructions!

Realistically, there is very little most companies can do to try to prevent these instances ...

There are countless "squatters" out their who look for situations like this to embarrass a company to (try to) force them to pay an outrageous price for a phone-number or web domain. I'm willing to bet that within 5 years any QR code that is designed to be scanned by a particular program will be redirected to a porn site when used in a general QR code reader.

mmmmhhh.

Switch!!!

I can't help but think, "what mature title would Nintendo create now?". I wonder who would lead the project, and what gameplay elements would be, especially with the Wii U controller in mind.
