not serious obviously. What the hell is RE!?

Religious Education

Aah ok.

I bet you loved it eh

I didn't mind it actually, I thought it utterly pointless so it was kinda like a free lesson. Most of my family were religious at the time and I never had anything against it (religion I mean)

Now though, I still believe it's utterly pointless and should be scraped in favour of teaching kids about finances and such, stuff kids need to knows these days growing up, rather than religion which the majority couldn't give a hoot about.

You didn't have anything against a philosophy that tought that you were condemned to hell forever?

Wow, I'm impressed with your tolerance

Seriously though, I disagree with you. I know I am in the vast minority (especially amongst the more educated folk), but I still maintain that a proper teaching of (almost any) religion is ultimately beneficial. Whether the student accepts it or not.

^ I forgot to add that I don't believe you are condemned to hell forever. I am in fact of the opinion that others' beliefs are irrelevant to one's own life.

Just wanted to clear in case you misunderstand me.

I didn't take any notice of it, nobody did, we just messed around and took it as a free class!

The only thing beneficial about it is learning about morals, which can be done without learning about religion, take away that and the cons started to outweigh the pros, like being judgemental and pigeonholing groups of people. Kids (gay ones specifically) definitely don't need to hear about being condemed to hell or whatever for being gay.

Religious people would disagree, I think educated people and the majority agree it's more beneficial to teach something that is actually, going to help and affect their lives in a good way.

But we still celebrate Christmas. We've got our priorities in order.

well the logic is that a irreligious society creates a perfect society.

Britain sort of proves that all of societies problems will not be simply solved by getting rid of God. Its way more complicated then that, some people can be so simplistic.

Christmas has transcended its status as a purely Christian holiday, for many years now at least. It's practically a Capitalist holiday now.

I stopped caring for religion the moment I opened some sociology books, but I imagine once I grow much older I'll embrace it again.

Also I get the feeling Britain is only saying as such not to upset those of other faith, I hear the minorities there are quite...vocal.

I celebrate Christmas, but not from the religious standpoint (because i'm not). To me it's a day to get together with friends/family, and hand out gifts to one another. Could care less about the real reason behind the holiday. :/

Then you should call it Giftmas or something, the 'Christ' bit at the start is a bit of a give away about it's origins even if it is a replacement for a pagan festival.

That said, the figure doesn't surprise me, out of the 5 people living in my house, 4 were bought with with religion, none of use are at all now. I think having Christianity as an established faith is a good thing, we celebrate those holidays, and many of our values and laws are based on Christian teachings. We have developed as a nation which allows free speech and freedom to believe anything you wish. I do think having more christians in this country would be a better thing, might teach some of these scum kids to respect their lives, community and culture instead of forming into gangs and doing the opposite.

Hmm, pie.

Yeah the thing is sure the holiday has Christian origins it is a great time to be with friends and family.

During the Holidays almost everyone gets together with family or friends.
