It is possible, but having a 3D touch screen reduces the 3D effect. 

there already are smartphones with 3D touchscreen, like the LG Optimus 3D and one from Sharp afaik..

I doubt the WiiU's tablet controller will feature 3D and 1080p - maybe a v2 3-4 years after release will.

Don't need it on a handheld either.

They might, an HD one would be cool but hopefully not the 3D part!

Why put 3D if they are trying to make it as cheap as possible, it's the reason why they are using the resistive screens...

They're not putting in 3D now. It's a patent that allows them to do so in the future, when that kind of stuff will be cheaper to integrate. Maybe in an upgrade several years down the line, like Motionplus, or in the next-next gen.

For those of you who don't like 3D, that's fine, but remember 3D is not something that you're forced to use. Some people like it. Some people don't. The fact that Nintendo might add it in the tablet further protects it from being copied by competitors, that way they don't come out with their own tablet controller and say, "HEY! Look ours is different because it has a 3D screen!" As if they're the ones who invented 3D screens in the first place smh

Heck ya. I want an HD screen on the tablet to be possible. I would pay a hundred dollars for a 1080p tablet controller any day. I don't think Nintendo will release a 3D tablet controller with WiiU I am betting the tablet patent for 3D is being made to leave room open for the next generation after WiiU. Nintendo would have a hard time releasing a 3D tablet for WiiU. It would be confusing to consumers though it would he pretty kick ass I simply don't know if Nintendo would do it. Plus assuming an HD 3D WiiU tablet was released it would need to retail at 175$ or so far to expensive for a controller.
