Forums - Sony - Sony spends $50M on PS Vita marketing in U.S.A.

This doesn't sound like that much money for marketing, but I think that also heavily depends on what the time-frame is ... On top of that, the biggest question would be whether Sony is doing a much for focused marketing campaign (where $50 Million can go a long way) or if they're going to spend the money hitting a broader audience (where you can burn through $50 Million on a handful of television spots).

The system looks good, but the 3DS was my last gaming system ever.

I have seen absolutely nothing on the PSVITA...

So, they actually spent less than $50mil to market the release of the PS3? You'd think they were releasing a new toaster.

That's actually how they advertised it

I thought t'was a grill.

$50 million won't make a big impact. By contrast MS spent $500 million to market a new product.

they did not, that was debunked by the financial report by MS. Marketing costs were up 15 % to 180 million (or something like that) - and that was for the whole EDD.

500.....180, point still stands. $50 million is nothing when promoting a new handheld.

Well look at it this way:

180 million for Xbox, Kinect and Windows phone 7 - worldwide.
50 million for the PS Vita - in the US.

I think 50 million is quite a number for marketing a new launch. The number just seems to be tiny because all we talk about when it comes to the economy are billions...

I think they are doing quite a big marketing push with the PS Vita. I still doubt it will be successful. IMO it will be a flop. I like the tech, but it fails to steal any excitement from the 3DS and tablets. But that is just me. Let's see how it turns out.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
