as long as sony ships about the same amount of consoles in a year, without a big decline and as long as microsoft wont reveal the new xbox, there is no reason at all for sony to reveal the new ps4. Microsoft just hit a peak year so why would they reveal their new console.

Because, as has already been said, letting your opposition get a large head start is a very, very bad idea.

Sony is nearly bankrupt. There is no way that they will release a new console in the next two years,

I don't think we'll hear or see anything of significance this year, some small details next year and a release the end of 2014. By which time the Wii U will have a very strong foothold in the market, the PS360 will be selling around 50-60k a week and the NeXtBox will be just around the corner.

I just don't see either company releasing a new console in 2013.

Can I quote you on that?

Of course he can't. SCE may have lost a load of cash this gen, but they're nowhere near bankruptcy. If they were, it'd have been all over this site, and every other site, especially this close to a new console launch from them.

Release at the end of 2014 would be way too late. Why would they come out so late, do you think they want to give Wii U the whole market?

With no announcement yet, Microsoft saying that they pretty much aren't going to announce anything this year and Sony saying the same, the Wii U will have at least 12 months as the only console on the market, most likely 18. We can only wait and see, but I think most people will see the Wii U as a cross-over console, and so won't sell mega amounts (like 50-60mil LT). Because of this it'll be in a generation of its own.

At least, that's what it SEEMSS like currently.

Just like the PS2 was! Right? Because the PS2 launched about 12-18 months beforehand (depending on territory). On top of that, the Xbox was twice as powerful as the PS2 and the Gamecube nearly as much, so everyone saw the PS2 as a stop-gap to the real generati-BLAAAAAAGH

The Dreamcast and PS1 would make better examples.

As for the PS4, unless Kaz lied to the world, I don't think we will see a full-on unveiling. We may get a teaser at E3, and a full unveiling sometime in the fall to counter the Wii U/NexBox. If they were to do that, there would be a huge consquence, and it may slow them down in the future. If it isn't revealed this year, then things would just get WORSE for Sony, as the Wii U would take the market, and they would have to dig themselves out of the hole again.

highly doubt it sony has already said there was no announcment this year , especally when ps3 just started making a profit after 4 yrs of lost money. they hardly can afford to get a ps4 right now . and not with vita .

in fact thats another thing , if they announce ps4 that would hurt the Vita's thunder Remember how pokemon white killed 3ds's thunder well . thats exactly what will happen with vita because sony claimed this was gonna be almost on par with ps3 what happens when ps4 comes out . well the vita will be in the same place as psp was upon release

Why would Sony want people to know to know there will be a PS4 announcement this year? Are they openly going to say "yes we will announce the PS4 this E3." Announcing it this year and launching it 2013 is not that bad of an idea.
