By which time the Wii U will have a very strong foothold in the market, the PS360 will be selling around 50-60k a week and the NeXtBox will be just around the corner. I just don't see either company releasing a new console in 2013. |
Release at the end of 2014 would be way too late. Why would they come out so late, do you think they want to give Wii U the whole market?

With no announcement yet, Microsoft saying that they pretty much aren't going to announce anything this year and Sony saying the same, the Wii U will have at least 12 months as the only console on the market, most likely 18. We can only wait and see, but I think most people will see the Wii U as a cross-over console, and so won't sell mega amounts (like 50-60mil LT). Because of this it'll be in a generation of its own.
At least, that's what it SEEMSS like currently.

Just like the PS2 was! Right? Because the PS2 launched about 12-18 months beforehand (depending on territory). On top of that, the Xbox was twice as powerful as the PS2 and the Gamecube nearly as much, so everyone saw the PS2 as a stop-gap to the real generati-BLAAAAAAGH

The Dreamcast and PS1 would make better examples.
As for the PS4, unless Kaz lied to the world, I don't think we will see a full-on unveiling. We may get a teaser at E3, and a full unveiling sometime in the fall to counter the Wii U/NexBox. If they were to do that, there would be a huge consquence, and it may slow them down in the future. If it isn't revealed this year, then things would just get WORSE for Sony, as the Wii U would take the market, and they would have to dig themselves out of the hole again.
