Jumpin.  I stop taking you seriously after the comma.

It is true though that even if Sony has way more exclusives they also sell way less. But yeah, I'd still say Sony has better ones.

Way less than what? Halo? Yes. Way less than Gears? No, Uncharted comes quite close. They have a lot of 2m+ selling games, many 3m+ and a few 4m+. Only 360 MS exclusives (non-casual) that have sold 4m+ are Halo, Fable, one iteration of Forza, Gears. This "Sony exclusives sell way less" is honestly a myth. If you meant less than Nintendo then that's a given

The important part though is that lots of their (Sony's) exclusives are on a decline. They need to fix that somehow.

which ones?

- Gran Turismo 5 could sell less than GT4 but for now it selling at least on pair.
- God of War 3 sold more than previous.
- MGS4 is on track to be the best selling MGS ever (needs just more 500k sales)
- Killzone 2 sold way more than Killzone

I want to know which playstation exclusive sold less then previous ones... or did you mean this gen???

- U2 > U1 and Ucharted 3 is selling faster than U2.
- Killzone 3 will end selling more than Killzone 2.
- inFAMOUS 2 had more download than inFAMOUS... so hard to compare.
- LittleBigPlanet is a case... the LBP2 is not selling like the previous.
- Resistance and MotorStorm could be anothers cases.

You covered it up pretty much. And Killzone 3 should sell more than it does given the higher installbase.

Like Reach vs. Halo 3? Gears 3 even will take another year to reach the other Gears titles.

Reach is not a sequel, it's a prequel. That lowers sales just like with ODST, only not as much. And Gears of War 3 has already beaten GW2 sales in Japan, inducating higher interest even there.

Gears 1 also beat Gears 2 in Japan >_<

That's irrelevant. Gears 1 sales = Gears 3 sales. G3 will definitely win.

No, you using Japan is irrelevant xD

I know you're not entirely serious ( :P ) but Japan tend to give games short legs and high launch numbers (by Japanese standards...), meaning that these number may indicate what is to come. But yeah, they still support the PSP so I guess anything is possible over there :P

I'm pretty sure inFAMOUS has more downloads than inFAMOUS 2 considering it was offered for free after the PSN outage.

This, LBP 2, Resistance 3 & Killzone 3 are all doing less than their predecessors.

Killzone 3 will end selling more... 600k to outsold... it sold 40k in 2012... K2 sold 10k... it will happen this year.

Bigger install base, slower sales, this year it probably won't sell more than 400K, so no.

Quoted for truth .

i think verity is most important. decline only matters sales/profit wise.

That's entirely true. As long as they keep coming up with new IPs they'll be fine.

Did I render you hostile again... :( I hope not.

Yes buddy, I was agreeing with you and being candid.

@IIITheONE1III, pezus, ethomaz. Guys, keep the quote trees trimmed plz.

One things that excellent analysis shows is that the decline is not terrible and rather upwards for certain Sony IPs, but for others that are more Mario-like (LBP), sequels don't work as powerfully. It follows the trends Nintendo saw in its Wii sequelitis. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (32% drop), Endless Ocean 2 (only a 20% drop on less shelf life so OK), Wii Play Motion (Major drop), WSR 2 (not bundled, but still less phenomenal than WS though phenomenal nonetheless), Nintendogs+Cats (yes on a new plat with small userbase, but not in anyway a hit like the first one. Did not move systems).

However, Uncharted keeps going up, COD as well. Mario Kart 7 is doing fantastic on 3DS versus a very similar Mario Kart Wii. Some franchises just keep going up!

About GOW3, it's not a very good indicator because it released on a whole new platform with glorious HD visuals in contrast with the first two. Same goes for GT5 and MGS4. Mind you the PS2 had a much larger userbase, so on par sales are a good sign. Though apples to oranges it's still a good indicator of franchise health.

for me Sony thats why i stick with them. Lots of studios coming up with great new IP's every year plus sequals to amazing games like Uncharted & LBP

Then Nintendo, even though alot of the games involve the same character they come up with great ways to keep Mario fresh.
(had a gamecube but skipped Wii as i hated the idea of it, WiiU is on my shopping list though)

Microsoft have Halo and Gears which are great but halo is wearing thin (halo wars was a nice idea to keep halo universe expanding and bringing in new gameplay) but i wont ever shift to Xbox because of halo, and as far as i know they arnt making any more gears? (is that right? ) other then them 2 they don't seem to have alot else.

Sony, easily.

We all love Mario and Zelda, but where are the new IP's, Nintendo?

They are everywhere:

Wii...

Nintendogs

Brain Training/Age

Eco Shooter 530

Disaster: DoC

Marionation Gear

Soma Bringer

Xenoblade Chronicles (technically a new IP as the 'xeno' preffix was just added to honour Takahashi)

Steel Diver

Line Attack Heroes

Pullblox/Pushmo

Another Code/Trace Memory

and that's just to name a few

Wii series, Nintendogs, Brain Age and Xenoblade Chronicles are the only ones I've even heard of from this list. I'm talkin big new IP's on par with the sort of games Sony has been making like Uncharted, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, ModNation Racers, etc.

I just don't get how people still think Nintendo is the king of exclusives. They certainly were from the NES until the N64, but I think based on the PS2 and PS3 that Sony has surpassed Nintendo in both quality and quanitity of exclusives.  I don't know if Sony will ever have a series as big as Mario or Zelda but they certainly try a hell of a lot harder.

I think its obvious from the sales numbers that Nintendo has the best exclusives.

Sony's are better aimed at my tastes though i dont have a PS3. I am planning to switch back to Sony on the PS4, if they dont go under or something until then (the company is in trouble). Otherwise... i dunno. I dislike microsoft for charging for online play and im not the biggest fan of the Wii U controller nor kinect.

There is no definitive way to say which company is the king of exclusives because it's all objective to your taste.

Basically whichever console you prefer the most will be the one you say has the best exclusives.

I presume he means in terms of number of exclusives and their sales - that's hard facts not preference.  I didn't read the OP as based on preference.  If you use that criteria then Nintendo clearly is the king - they have a strong portfolio of exclusives and they outsell all other exclusives.  I mean Nintendo exclusives aren't actually to my taste - I'm not really into Mario Kart and the like anymore - but their sales and strengh as an IP can't be denied.

I would have thought these criteria over time would clearly result in Nintendo >> Sony >>>>> Microsoft which the poll seems to reflect.  Of course Microsoft are the younger player timewise, so that really hampers them compared to multiple generations of huge Mario sales.

This gen it's a bit tigher but there's no doubt that Nintendo probably takes the crown again on sales volume across it's exclusives, after that I think it would be close between MS/Sony with Sony having more exclusives but MS having higher average sales by exclusive.

Ok yeah if that's the case then it would be Nintendo for sure followed by Microsoft and then Sony if we are talking about this gen only. If it's for all time then Sony gets second place as they've been on the market longer.

EDIT: Just read the OP again and it looks like my original point stands seeing as he's pretty much just asking everyone's opinions on it and not keeping it strictly to the number of exclusives and their sales.
