Just... how much did this guy make off of Minecraft anyway? That he can throw around millions like that?

I mean... I woulda thought he would of made a million or two sure... but enough that he can throw a couple million around?!

According to the website, about 4.9m people have brought minecraft, even if counting it as £10 a pop(That was the price of it in Alpha) but taking taxes etc into account, that's still an impressive sum.

He must be sitting on at least 20-30 probably, but as he said before, the money just goes into the account, and he lives on his normal salary or something, pretty cool guy.

A better way of looking at it would be they have sold over 8,000 copies in that last 24hours @ 20 EUR a pop which is 160,000 EUR of before tax revenue which means ~ 1 million EUR a week before tax. Corperate Tax rate in Sweden is 26.3% which means after tax the income Mojang make on Minecraft is ~750,000 EUR a week (I think the customers pay the VAT but I can't remember if not take off another 25%).

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

This guy is pretty cool, I've never played Psychonauts but I think I will buy it.

Well, Notch has permanently damaged the name of the yogscast but he has managed to redeem himself here.

Yay!!!

DAAAAAANG.

I dunno, me i'd at least live off the Bank accounts interest.

Funny stuff really.  Development studios going bankrupt left and right.  THQ looking to be a big tree about to fall....

Yet here a 1 man development team is able to rake in that kind of cash.

An outlier for sure but still... more and more i feel like blockbuster Triple A development studios and companies built around them just aren't supposed to exist.

Things ranging instead from indy 1-man stuff like minecraft to your more modes 4-5 million development budgets.

This is the best gaming news I've heard for a while.

The curious thing is that Steven Dengler seems to be behind this. Couldn't he have funded it in the first place?

I was perfectly content with this game not getting a sequel, like most of the awesome Schafer games. However, I do find these news really exciting, Tim Schafer is brilliant, but it seems as if he hasn't had the funds (or he might possibly not want to take the risk?) to make the really creative, big games he used to. Like Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. Don't get me wrong, Costume Quest was amazing, but it really can't compare to the olden stuff.

Please make this happen, Notch, you will be my hero forever.

Just goes to show how ridicoulus the notion of triple A budget games can be. Not all of them are great just because millions more were spend on them, props to notch for coimng up with something so simple yet addictive enough to become such a massive hit over the last few years.

I've met an unbelievable amount of people who play minecraft, and even more who've at least heard of it. It's just insane, even my managers at work heard of it.
