imo ff XIII-2 is wayyyyyy better than ff XIII and i have only played 8 hours, the game don't deserve 9 or 10 but it deserves a better score than the one they gave.

I havent played Skyrim yet (not for over 1 hour at least - too busy). but based on what i've heard the PS3 version was nearly unplayable because of the tech issues. i had a similar experience with Dark Souls, a game which i would have loved to have given an 8.5, but because of the excessiveness of the tech problems i would give it a 4.

i agree if a game is so broken it spoils your experience it should be reflected in the score. that being said Skyrim is a PC game. they've had to downgrade the game to run on consoles. its a luxlury to even play it on the PS3. that being said Dark Souls was not a PC game, its inherent problems are based on the addimissions of incompitence of its developers. i had to mannually turn off my PS3 countless times for that game. and that is inexcusable.

however from the FF13-2 review i read, the reviewer did explain in depth what the problems were. and its irrelevant because the game will hold a 7.5-8 metacritic, which is what most people think it is anyway. with nearly every game you will get scores that are low and high, this is consequently one of those low ones.

Well for consistency they should have the same person reviewing the sequel as reviewed the original (C. Arnone - 9.0). At least that way there's proper relativity between the first game and it's direct sequel so that people who played FFXIII can get a proper sense of how FFXIII-2 comnpares to the original. Or at least get someone who liked FFXIII as much as the original reviewer to do the review. This way you can't actually get a good handle on how the 2 games compare. The difference between this site and Edge, for example, is that Edge gave XIII-2 the same 5.0 score as XIII. Tells everyone the games are about the same. What this site tells everyone is that one game is way better than the other.

From what I've heard the XIII and XIII-2 are about the same.

All the gaming public ask for is consistency, consistency means gamers can rely on a website to be a good indicator. To me, 2 years on, it seems like XIII's score should be down in the 6's, rather that XIII-2's be up in the 8's for there to be reasonable comparability.

for the love of... what part of "nobody else wanted to review the game"? Did you not get?? If no one else wanted to do it, that must mean they must have thought the game wasnt very good

I wanna harp on this no one wanted to review the game bit. I find that fascinating, that kind of disinterest is usually reserved for Wii and DS shovelware, not for a high profile HD game

I'm assuming there was no review copy thus the disinterest, And the staff, as I recall, rely more on review copies than actually going out and buying the game themselves. For the most part anyway. Which is not wrong. Why spend money if you don't have to?

Though it would be interesting if this was indeed a copy and Runa was the only one who volunteered to review it.

I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say about the others and their rate of review copies, but so far my record has been about 50/50.  Downloads are a lot easier to get review copies for.

I did not get a review copy for Final Fantasy XIII-2, I paid my own money to review it becuase, contrary to popular belief, I actually was excited to play it and wanted it to be good.  All this talk of "he haded XIII, he wanted to hate this one" is false.  I love games, I love a lot of games, and I hate complaining aout games (which is why the few games I do complain about get the full rantariffic treatment..doesn't happen often so I make it good.)

Again, I'mnot sure what I can say about the others, but Torillian did say earlier in the thread that Final Fantasy XIII was one of the only JRPG's he's ever bought that he didn't complete, and everyone else on the team disliked XIII as well as far as I know.  My word is not law, I do not know for sure, but whe asked I got a resounding chorus of "fuck that, we don't want it."

I'll still be there to review Versus though, and I'll gladly pay for it becuase it looks really good.  I most certainly have no interest in XIII-3 though.  I will not be returning to Coocoon or Pulse if I can help it after how disappointed I was with both.

That sucks cause im having a blast with the game atm.

Just a warning: Everything changes after you play for 5 hours.

Funny thing is I was 15 hours into the game when I wrote that comment. And now I have around 25 hours and its still awsome :D

Why do people care?? Seriously, The game is regarded as highly average and the worst reviewed final fantasy of all time. This review is just one guys opinion, not everyone thinks a square enix game is the second coming of christ himself.

.... do you actually thing that is how reviews work? So in your mind if a game had amazing presentation but there was literally no story, no characters and the gameplay was walking down a corridor doing nothing you would give it 50/100 at least because it had good presentation?

There aren't set limits as to what parts of the game contribute to the overall score. Reviewers are reviewing the experience as a whole. FF13-2 deserves a 8/9 for graphics, presentation etc. But if the reviewer feels the gameplay and story are both awful then having pretty graphics doesn't somehow make the game enjoyable.

It isn't just about graphics and presentation.Which are excellent as the reviewer admit himself (gorgeous visuals). It is that all FF games have great visuasl, good music, a long enough story, a great environment, a good battle system. Any game always had at least one purposely annoyngly funny character. Any game had a battle system that no matter what could be played just holding the X button 90-95% of times (doing that now with FF VI. Seriously, how boring). It is mostly a matter of hitting and sometime healing. Then there are the bosses and it gets a different story. All RPG elements are there, and FF XIII-2 is even more complex than other adding all the monsters. Everything fit together and plays SMOOTHLY, without glitches, hic-ups, nroken cameras or controls because of the excellent quality of the impementation and also being fun. More for some than others. How can a reviewer end up trashing a game like this? I am not saying everyone should give an 80, 90 or even 100. But if one doesn't like the game it still can't go below 70.

Now I read that also EDGE gave a 5/10. Well, those are the same jerks that gave FF X a 6/10!!! To FF X, probably the best FF game ever!! Lowering the Metacritic score. Doesn't anyone see that people like that should get another job? I want a mechanism for reviewing the reviewers then. These people have no rights to have their biased OPINION counted as a professional one.
