Forums - Sony - PSN will end on February 8th!

Well this is an interesting one. A couple of people over at neoGAF claim to have received the following email:

“On February 8, 2012, your PlayStation®Network account will be renamed to a “Sony Entertainment Network” account or a “SEN account” in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation®3 system software and PlayStation®Vita system software updates. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system at this time.)

For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition.

Sincerely,
The Sony Entertainment Network Team”

This would make sense (sens?), as you can manage your PlayStation devices over at the Sony Entertainment Network website, signing in with a PSN ID. If this does turn out to be true, would having one overarching account for TVs, Music and gaming be a good idea?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Kind of what Google did (merge into one account). I heard some people had problems with that although I hardly log onto YouTube anymore.

I imagine it's Sony trying to resolve the main issue of them continuously competing with their own products and a lack of unified Sony service for all their electronics. From what I understand, and correct me If I'm wrong, but on the Xperia play for example you would have to buy a PS1 game twice in order to play it on your PS3 and on your Xperia phone, one for your PSN account and one for the Sony Ericsson account.

When they announced SEN at CES, I was hoping against hope they'd start to aggressively do away with all the weird little fiefdoms within Sony and have a coherent company vision for once. Sounds like Kaz may actually be super serial!

i will always call it Playstation Network (PSN)

vita sounded awful as well when the name was first leaked. Now it sounds fine. It will just take some time to get used to the new name.
