Forums - Sales - THQ reveals plans for 1.4m unsold uDraw tablets

Eurogamer

THQ has revealed how it plans to offload the 1.4 million unsold uDraw units responsible for dragging down it latest quarterly financial report.

A spokesperson for the publisher told Kotaku that, to the best of their knowledge, the leftover stock is not being dumped.

Instead THQ hopes too offload the devices at a greatly reduced price tag, "perhaps at non-traditional game retailers and discount stores."

Just how much it's willing to knock off the original £69.99 RRP, THQ didn't say. However, Amazon is currently selling it for £23.97.

Yesterday, THQ CFO Paul Pucino admitted that disastrous sales of the device had resulted in a whopping $100 million revenue shortfall which contributed in no small way to a $55.9 million quarterly loss for the publisher.

Wonder how many ET jokes that will lead to, I've already thought of a few.

THQ doesnt look like its going to last much longer, especially if the current economic situation persists. Unlike other large publishers it doesn't have yearly cash cows that can keep it going (eg Activision and Call of Duty, EA and Fifa + Madden, Ubisoft and Just Dance + Assassin's Creed). Despite some of their IPs having some promise, they just don't capture much market attention. Homefront and Darksiders have good potential but haven't sold anywhere near what THQ would have liked.

I don't understand why they are dropping the kids games. They have the Pixar license, if anythning thats what they need to keep going.

Try making games for the next peripheral you make. Say what you want about Activision, but when they make a plastic guitar, they made the games to back it up!

WWE does seem to light up the sales charts, and although UFC 2009 Undisputed was quite a hit, UFC Undisputed 2010 didn't come close to matching it sales wise which is why they made UFC Personal Trainer instead of UFC Undisputed 2011. If Undisputed 3 flops, that will probably the end of the series.

EDIT: Just checked the sales for UFC Undisputed 2010, got that completely wrong. The game seemed to have had pretty good legs.
