NEXT XBOX GRAPHICS PLEASE!

I wonder how much it is costing for AMD to manufacture one of these chips. Considering the die size and how much AMD and Nvidia usually pay for a waffer, it could be anything from $75 to $150. The former sounds about what MS used to pay for the Xenos chips when the X360 came out... but sadly, considering the immaturity of the 28nm process, yielding should be far lower than an optimum scenario, and the price should be higher.
By the way, watching the video made me realize how tiring should be to do one of these stop motion animations.

Pixal? *Giggles*
Anways, I see something more like a mid-range 7000 for PS4/720.
So the lighting is the main focus of the video right? Because I wasn't quite impressed with anything other than the lighting.
Not that impressive, and it completely doesn't matter since no game could afford the expense to take full advantage of 79xx's power. The limit to PC game fidelity is clearly budget now.
I mean, bad console ports will max it out, and DX11 effects (stupid levels of tesselation) layered on top of one another will use GPU resources without making it look better.
I wonder how long the high-end GPU's profit margins will last, if a <$100 GPU can run all games on the market at 1920x1200 30fps 4xAA without 3D/multi-monitor/extreme tesselation.
Also lol if anyone thinks this is going in a console, or even that a 76xx/77xx/78xx is. Power use needs to be far, far lower than the 225W this is rated at.

And that's to say nothing of the size of the case and cooler that would be required to keep that console running reliably. At minimum, it would probably be the size of a Shuttle PC.
As for high end GPU profit margins, top end gaming VGA cards will always be lower production yield products that realiably sell to a smaller niche audience, much like high performance versions of autos that can be priced much lower with more practical performance levels. Like many computer components, it's understood that a buyer gets a dimishing rate of performance returns relative to the price paid, but that still doesn't kill the demand for such components.
That enthusiast target group would be larger than that of the pool for professional workstation cards, which are more profitable to the manufacturers and produced in even smaller yields, but workstation cards lack the halo effect high end gaming cards have and don't drive sales of the lower range of their products.

Next Xbox graphics, if the early reports are correct, will be HD 6670 level.
While a poor, aged cousin to the 7900 series, this is not to say that many of the features of the 7900 series won't be implemented into the custom version of the 6670 being designed for the Xbox.

AMD has generally used smaller wafer sizes relative to Nvidia, so it's not unreasonable to assume that they're paying less per chip, ignoring things like overall production yield. Regardless, it still translates to a fairly expensive piece of silicon.
At any rate, it's a faily safe bet that MS won't be using leading edge GPU designs in the next Xbox for price considerations alone. I'm sure they'd much rather have hardware with lower production costs, lower retail pricing and earlier profit margins even at the cost of any marketing bullets that tout the unheralded Next Gen Power of their new hardware.
As someone who's done stop motion animation, oof. You have no idea.
downloading the demo right now, gonna see how it runs on crossfire 6970 2GB level
