Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Nintendo are not competing with other manufacturers; Nextbox not at E3 '12

Well this does make sense. If I remember correctly didn't the Wii not count too?

To those saying they are not competing with Nintendo... what do you say about Kinect? Did they buy out the tech and reveal the "Natal" all within a short span out of boredom? I think they did it because they wanted a peice of the Nintendo pie a.k.a. they went on to compete against the Wii and the market it seized control of.

yea. i can see MS. point, but that doesn't make it true. it's also stupid for him to say Nintendo isn't competing with them.

some of you guys don't realize this is a pr statement. Of course the xbox is competing with nintendo. And of course microsoft knows that. They've said it themseleves that they are trying to take the casual market with kinect. That statement was made in the hopes of preventing microsoft from getting heat for not releasing the nextbox alongside the wii u.

I doubt the xbox will announce any new ips that aren't kinect related for e3. But then again that doesn't really matter. I mean other than Sorcery, every single ps3 game I plan on picking up this year will be multiplatform. Yes it sucks for the more "hardcore" gamer who buy 30 console games a year and thinks only sony should be allowed to make sequels and anyone else doing so is milking it. But to the vast majority of people, it doesn't matter.

First it would be stupid to launch a year later than the competition without having a significant hardware advantage. Ask Sony.
Second when they don't compete with Wii U, they are aiming at a different audience. Like they did earlier this gen. MS was core only and Wii casuals only. So MS aims for core gamers, which need to have a reason to play the 360 and 20% is not enough.

BTW I thin all three are competitors, no matter what they say.

If Microsoft aims for a different audience then they don't have to be significantly more powerful. Just look at the Wii and the 360 for example.
However, for now it seems that Nintendo is trying to aim more for the core gamers with WiiU (just look at the multiplatform games that are already announced for it). So based on that and your assumption MS will be aiming for the casuals and not for the core (which would make it irrelevant if it is more powerful or not). Honestly, I don't think this will happen, I was just following your way of thinking here.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

Oh god, my worst fears have been realised, 3rd consecutive year of children and 40 year old adults jumping around the stage, 30 minutes of someone waving their hand around and video-chatting, more timed-exclusive dlcs which ruins gaming and nothing in the name of new worthwhile exclusives to get excited about.

Someone wake me from this nightmare.

That's what you consider a nightmare? Oh, these first world problems are so trying.

What an idiot. The Wii U is all about competing with Sony and Microsoft.

Good thing for them that it is a losing battle for Nintendo.

Looks like the Jedi mind tricks are finally working ;)

Iwata: "We're not competing with Microsoft and Sony..."

MS.fr: "Ah, Oké!"

EEEdioht! lawl :)

Next thing you know... 2 years later Iwata, curling up in glee, exclaims: "PWND!"

Either that, or MS.fr is playing dumb (most likely, but possibly not :S).

That is a bad example, because the 360 is significantly more powerful than the Wii.

I don't think the Wii is going after the core crowd ever again. They made so much money with the Wii and the DS that they want to aim at this audience again. Most of their franchises are more casual than core. Sure there is Zelda and Metroid for example but these are tiny compared to Pokemon or Mario Kart. I know we will have a discussion about what is core and what is casual now.

Anyway a new gen is always pretty random. Let's see what happens.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

ok ok my bad, but they still sold more xboxs, thats what i was getting at

They're lying to themselves. Let's see what they say once the Wii U versions of Call of Duty start outselling the 360 versions in a few years.
