What you should say is; Morrowind type games will work on Wii, and yes they will.

Oblivion and Morrowind is more different than most people know. Including you, it seems, calling Oblivion a smaller and prettier and Morrowind is very faulty. I got your point, but your comparisons were irrelevant in any case since this gen is very different from the last. Gothic is also quite different from Morrowind in its own sense, I've played them both to death!

If you were to make a 16 square mile game on the Wii, you'd have to use cel-shading (Windwaker) or some other old fashioned visual instrument to make it work at all, and I just don't see any 3rd party developer bothering to do that. One can't expect huge and processive demanding titles on the Wii, that is a sad fact one has to get used to if you own it. Like I said; 3rd parties will keep on spewing out half-assed and cheap games just to make quick money, rather than concoct immersive, deep visually and audiovisally impressive titles (you could hope for original and sound art direction, however). On a rare occassion, a game that almost meet those criteria will arrive, but they'll be extremely sparse.

What you see is what you get, and that applies to the Wii, the 360 and the PS3 equally.

umm...why couldn't the wii have a 16-square mile game? Oblivion was on the xbox 360. xbox 360 uses a dvd drive. wii uses a dvd drive. wii doesn't output as high end graphics as the 360 so to make the same world would take less space since it would be less detailed.

the wii is capable of a lot more than you give it credit. just because most 3rd party software was highly rushed shovelware doesn't mean the wii can't do great things.

Drivespeed and RAM-output Kitler, those are the only words I have for that. Any game that size would be nowhere near Oblivion level, which would make it a very different game.

Create games that are better than Nintendo's

That's a tall order!

ubisoft said they will create games that will match nintys qualty

Ubisoft also says that Splinter Cell is miles better than MGS. We'll see the Ubi titles for Wii and judge then, I think. All dev's are very confident that they are very, very good compared to anyone.

Imo; Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ubisoft

In general, it is my belief that Nintendo is so successful as a company because they produce high quality games that are distinct within the entire market and are accessible to everyone. There really isn’t a defined genre that Nintendo can not or will not produce.

In contrast, third parties end up struggling because they produce low quality generic games which target a tiny market segment. They end up restricting the content of the games they’re creating based on the platform they’re releasing it to. They should put some of their effort that they’re putting into unconventional games into producing high quality unconventional games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, at the same time they should put a lot of the effort they’re putting into conventional games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 into producing conventional games for the Wii and Nintendo DS.

If that's not a sure hit in Japan, I don't know what is! I'm surprised at how few games there are with this theme, considering peoples "cravings".

I don't see Oblivion type games on the Wii, sorry. The massive environments just wouldn't work on the Wii, that's one consequence out of many when you choose to disfavour power. But Resident Evil type games, or Silent Hill would be nice!
And perhaps a more polished Red Steel clone.

Unfortunately, I think that 3rd parties won't make an effort with their titles, since it pretty much sells well just becasue it's on the Wii...

You said "Oblivion type" games and Morrowind is the same "type" of game regardless of some differences.  You were even more specific that it wouldn't work because of the "massive environments" that "type" of game has.  Someone pointed out the fault in that statement and you tried to split hairs.  That "type" of game with massive environments can run on a wii because they can also run on lesser systems.  It won't have the graphics that Oblivion has (obviously), which is what you should have said.  The massive environments is not really the issue.

mr. mummelman,
yeah you are definitely wrong. no one is saying that an oblivion-type (in that same genre) game would have oblivion graphics. which seems to be your only point why it wouldn't work on wii. that type of game has been done before on systems less powerful than wii although not on quite the absolutely huge scale that oblivion is on. so yes an oblivion-type game can certainly be done on the wii with graphics not as good and maybe the world itself a bit smaller. then again the wii might be able to create a game world as big as oblivion's. we won't find out until some dev tries it, if they ever do.

so no the game oblivion is not possible on the wii. thats obvious. a similar type expansive open world rpg certainly is as it has been done on less powerful systems in the past.
