Actually, this just sounds like an update to their already existing online system and a rebrand. All of these features have been available since the Wii launched in 2006.

Not at all. Alot of these weren't present in Wii's system.

which ones?  i bought DLC for samba de amigo.  it was handeled very awkardly but it worked.  i'm assuming the new network handles things much better but it was technically possible to do it on the wii.

Well that only took an entire generation.

Nevertheless, congrats. I think a lot of people will be happy with this announcement and it can only be for the better.

Yes, paid DLC is only for the better of the gaming industry.

Well, not just that. I think paid DLC is fine as long as the content is compelling enough. There is the fact that some content already in the disc and is only unlocked after you buy said DLC but that's a whole another thing.

I think that's the industry sticking the middle finger to us for buying used games/pirating :D

Are you serious?
This is a natural change like SD to HD, it was either this or stay on the primitive online system forever.

i'm going to save this post for the next time someone reminds me how things like analog sticks or motion controls were in fact not a natural progression but actually the competition copying nintendo innovation...

What happened with you? Back in the days, your posts used to be clever and brilliant. You were one of my favourite posters. And now, they're all stuff like this. Rude, unnecessary posts that really bring nothing good with them.

Nintendo made dual analogs and motion controls relevant.

Dual analogs were tried with consoles before but failed. Sony tried motion controls with PS2 but failed(also powergloves failed). Nintendo did them right and made them standard.

Sony then came along and improved dual analogs and motion controls over what Nintendo offered. Now Nintendo is improving what Sony offers with PSN. >=]

There is absolutely nothing wrong with implementing your competitors' ideas in your product, only certain people ,*cough* fanboys *cough*, really care about these things.

NES/SNES had an online in Japan or something anyways.

Glad to see the end of the friend code system with Nintendo.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Kitler53 was joking. Guess not.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

I'm not just talking about DLC. I meant some of the other features weren't present in Wii, such as multiple personal system accounts, digital download of retail titles, 3rd party item billing (MMOs! F2P games!), digital user competitions, communications and sharing, etc.

It's really just a rebranding of functions that were all there before. We can re-open the debate about why certain actions of Sony's are much more blatant efforts at copying than Nintendo's incremental upgrades on their side

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I thought kitler was just taking the piss really - PlayStation Network / Nintendo Network?

On another note, it's about time. I hope they can get it on par with Live and PSN, I expect a huge marketplace and lots of social features!

So it's coming extremely soon then? Because they said Fire Emblem 3DS would have DLC and that's coming out in April. Looks like I'll need a bigger SD card.
