It probably WOULD sell better on the Wii, but that's Nintendo's mistake, not Sony's.

How so?

Because they didn't decide to make a game like this?

That wouldn't be Nintendo's mistake, that would be the developers.

This truly is one of those games you either love or hate.
To the haters:
Do you understand the key element of this game is creation above all else.
exploration, collaboration, exploration.
This game is going to lead to greater things in this industry.

If the game play aspect looks dull to you, then you might not be an artistic or creative person, and that is okay.
But you have to at least respect what the game is attempting to do... , right?

In all fairness, I'm guessing that a majority of the level-builders and modders are primarily PC gamers.

LBP needs to either get people from that aspect of gaming or bring new people into it.

I never hated on this game (though I'm still unsure if I'm going to get it), I'm just saying it's not going to be the grand game people think it is.  Most console owners don't visit forums like these and will only see the commercials about this game.  Most of those people will see something completely the opposite of what they want on a Sony console that they paid anywhere from $400-600 for and will pass this game.

As for the creation, it will keep a lot of people entertained but bad levels will put a lot of people off to this game quickly.  As I said, except about 600k sales and small decent community established 8-12 months after release.

I disagree with that.  Like i said.  Despite likely coming out later, Spore is the game that this game likely got a lot of it's ideas from... and honestly at the end of the day this game isn't much different then a huge number of programs that have been on the computer for a while now.

Though i'm all for it if this is the game that pushes games like this mainstream, as creation is my number 1 love in games and has been since the SNES.

Most of my gametime recently has gone to created custom wrestlers in fire pro wrestling and simming matches against them.  In the past it's gone to well, making games much in the same way you do in this game.  Can't wait to see how much of my gametime is given to spore when it comes out.

Really this is just a source engine with a library of objects and user friendly interface.

And that's exactly what's going to make all the difference. That's what makes it so revolutionary. To say that "it would be better on PC" is to miss the point. What makes LBP so unique and appealing is that it's not on PC, it's on a console. It does the kind of things you used to only be able to do on PC from the comfort of your couch, and it's all wrapped up in an easy-to-use, accessible, fun package. Game mods have traditionally been the domain of hardcore nerds hunched in front of computer monitors, because they were technically demanding and they were primarily used in games (FPSs) that appeal to that demographic. But just about everyone has the same creative gene those modders do, the desire to tinker and invent and play. LBP turns that ability into something everyone can do, makes it into a cooperative, social experience, and drapes it over the foundation of a simple, charming platformer that can appeal to anyone.

If anyone's still doubting the gameplay potential -- are you fans of Zelda or other adventure/puzzle games? LBP has the ability to do those same kinds of puzzles, with a cooperative element added in. Imagine obstacles where you have to balance platforms, for instance, using your bodies and objects in the environment in order to proceed. And things could be much more sophisticated if they add in switches/flags (variables triggered by certain conditions that cause new events to happen), so that you could do something like cooperatively push a block through a maze to reach a goal in order to unlock a door. I have a feeling they'll be including things like this, and if they do, it'll open up the potential for just about any kind of puzzle that can be done in 2D.

Like i said. Despite likely coming out later, Spore is the game that this game likely got a lot of it's ideas from... and honestly at the end of the day this game isn't much different then a huge number of programs that have been on the computer for a while now.

What? Besides a very superficial resemblance in character/object customization, LBP and Spore have almost nothing in common. As for it being similar to other PC programs, again, that's the point -- see the beginning of this post.

@Garcian, thank god for leader boards eh? So at least those of us that pretend were above developers can have a chance at proving that ;) Some of the best mods created for video games are created by users. Have some faith please.

I personally think the art direction is gorgeous! It's got such a surrealistic and artistic feel to it, I find it truely inspiring to game development. The platforming could use some work it seems (or the players just suck XD), but other than that I think it's a wonderfull concept and I HOPE it sells well.

...

No, Super Smash Brothers Melee sold like ass.

The only game that I know of that has successfully sustained itself on user-created content was Neverwinter Nights, and that existed on a system (the PC) whose userbase was/is many, many times that of the PS3.

I do agree that the art direction is wonderful, though. I just wish that it looked as though there were a compelling game behind it.

EDIT: Ah, forgot about SSB:M. Still, that's a party game backed by every easily-recognizable Nintendo mascot under the sun and then some.

Anyway, I'm estimating under 100k first week worldwide, and maybe 500k lifetime.

Yeah I don't quite think this will be much of a party game XD but it could still find it's way into many homes. Yeah PC's have had a MUCH HIGHER ammount of user created content, but I think for those reasons we should find some really great levels out there. We'll have far less idiots creating penis stages :P

Theres simple ways to weed out moronic designs so that people can actually enjoy some of the user content. The idea mentioned by Grey is a great idea. I'm sure they'll think of some other ways as well ^_^ Maybe have the dev team play through the top 5 occasionally :P who knows, lets just hope for the best!

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

unlike lair, heavenly sword etc, this time there are people who are arguing how this game will flop while giving reasons!

i don't think it'll flop, it's got lots of original ideas. i'll keep a close eye on this game. if it turns out to be exceptional, it'll be the primary reason i purchase a ps3. the other being that it's more reliable than the 360.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Everyone of my friends that owns a ps3 is excited about little big planet.

Imaginary people don't buy real games.
