It probably WOULD sell better on the Wii, but that's Nintendo's mistake, not Sony's.

How so?

Because they didn't decide to make a game like this?

That wouldn't be Nintendo's mistake, that would be the developers.

Actually I think the story is Nintendo turned Media Molecule down or Sony got to Media Molecule before Nintendo

The more I see this game, the more awesome it gets.

It's just a cutesy 2D platformer with a level editor.  It's a very charming 2D platformer with great physics and infinite possibilities thanks to the user-content scheme.

2D platformers are old.  I think many of us have a part of ourselves that still hungers for them, and I think gamers too young or new to have that old hunger may also be drawn in.

2D platformers aren't what the PS3 is for.  The PS3 is for games.  This is a game.  PSN is for games that can thrive with a free online community.  This is one.

Just watching those videos made me want to play the old platformers again.  But then again maybe that was just me wanting to rip the controller away from someone who had obviously forgotten those skills.

The problem with this game (though I have not played it so I cannot make final judgement) is the complication.

It's way to complicated for the casual crowd that it is aiming towards (the physics are confusing and annoying and way too realistic for a cutesy platformer even to me as a seasoned gamer).

For a game to be successful with the casual crowd, it needs to have a simple interface and no long drawn out system to create levels.

Actually, a casual game does not always be simple. Madden is one of the most casual games out there yet it also has the most complicated control scheme of any game out there. You have a completely different control scheme for passing, running, offensive tackling, defensive tackling, rushing, kicking, and I'm sure there are more. Each one of those control schemes uses every button on the controller and it's insane for even the most hardcore of games.

Yeah, but that's madden and it's casual because it's a sports game.

In Europe and Australia, Fifa is simple as cake and is popular as hell because it's casual.

For the type of game that it is it way too complex for a casual audience.

That is what I mean.

A great example is Super Mario Sunshine, the controls became much more complicated in that game and it turned away a large amount of casual gamers.

Fine, then there's also NCAA, whatever the NBA game is, and the hockey game all have pretty complicated controls.

Also, Sunshines controls weren't that complicated and the controls weren't what turned people off to that game.  The reason that game gets a lot of flak is because it wasn't a traditional Mario game.

And even Mario was complex, the fact Madden and all those other sports games are uber casual, have uber complicated control schemes, and are uber popular amongst the casuals completely disproves your theory.

without actually playing it, there's just no way to tell.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Hmmm, most people I talk to either have never heard of it, have no interest in it at all, and a few have asked when it is coming out for the Wii.

Personally, I am still holding off judgement, I really want this to be a good game, and as of right now I am 50/50 on it. The first clips I saw of it really made me want to buy it, but for some reason when I watched these new ones, my feeling was that of total BLEH! Don't know why, but this just isn't as intriguing as it first was, but maybe that has to do with when I was first expecting to play this game, which was not Fall of 2008, that is for damn sure.

I highly doubt this game will be a big seller though. I just don't see it. Maybe I am blind?!?!

For those of you who are screaming about how amazing it is, I almost feel like we were watching two completely different games. I thought I accidentally clicked into the wrong thread at first, then I was like...no wait, this is right...what is wrong with these people...errr, or, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?!? AHHHH

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!

but maybe that has to do with when I was first expecting to play this game, which was not Fall of 2008, that is for damn sure.
WHAT?! (checks the internets frantically) Dammit!

I think it looks fantastic. One of the games that might make me get a PS3 someday.

Actually there are other programs that are even more dumbed down the LBP. For example the one i linked couldn't be any more dumbed down.

Basically you are saying what it going to make it different is that it's on a console. (make you own games have been on consoles before.)

And that it's going to sell well. (Which has yet to be seen.)

I'd argue that creation of game content is in of itself a niche market, sure everyone like the occasional customization of your character, but very very few people are going to have the paitence to make their own stages. Even with the most user friendly interfaces.

It's also anything but casual. Well unless the level sucks. I don't think your average casual player is going to want to go online and search for good levels to play. I don't think your average casual user even has their system hooked up to the internet.

To me this feels more like all these other games feel like. A guy or two makes a few sweet stages... (Well he thinks so anyway) and bugs his friends to play it.

I think this will pretty much pitch to the same demographic that likes to be D&D dungeon masters. I'm not seeing too many soccer moms coming home and spending time making stages and puzzles.

Just because it has cutesy graphics doesn't mean it's casual.

Well, it's not just the simplicity of the creation system, or the fact that it's on a console, though those are both important. It's also the fantastic presentation, the cooperative elements, the centralized sharing system that the PS3 will bring, and the (as far as we can tell so far) fun game that it's all wrapped around. The best mod program in the world will get old in minutes if there isn't a compelling game experience to use it with. You need to be able to create an amazing world and then have just as much fun diving in and playing around in it. Past "make your own game" games on consoles haven't provided this, and PC FPSs, the main source of fun moddable games until now, have reached too small an audience.

But I shouldn't have to explain that there's something unique about LBP. Most people knew it the moment they saw it.

And no, not every soccer mom will probably get heavily into the creation aspect. But that's only half the game. Remember, what made people fall in love with LBP in the first place wasn't the level creation system, which we didn't even know existed until later -- it was that first video with the four players cooperatively making their way through an incredible level. It oozed fun and charm. It was like nothing we'd seen before. Even without the user generated content, LBP would have been something special. The gameplay alone may be enough for a lot of soccer-mom types.

Finally, while the most casual of casual gamers might not be interested in level design, there ought to be legions of less casual, normal, and hardcore gamers -- the ones who've always been interested in modding but have never had the skills -- who will pounce on the opportunity. This game could be bigger than any of us imagine.

Most people thought there was something unique about it because most people didn't know about the groundwork that has been done before it.

It's unique to a lot of people just due to their own ignorance.  To many people the I-pod was unique despite the fact that MP3 players had been around forever.  Most people had no idea that portable MP3 players existed.

So from an amazing gameplay trailor to IF WILL FLOP WII IZ GODZ!!!
