For me, A Link to the Past was the first great Zelda. I had tried Zelda II on the Nes and it was to damned confusing. I couldn't figure out what the hell I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go. I later got my hands on the gold cartridge of the original. It felt good but there wasn't a whole lot of logic to it. I'm sure it was super ambitious at the time of its launch but thinking like a normal person wouldn't get you through that game. I later beat it just to say I beat it but goddam, that was torture. And it wasn't even worth it.

With Ocarina of Time, it all made sense. The puzzles, the bosses and their weaknesses, everything. I beat that game without a guide (even though it came packed with a mini-guide) and loved every minute of it. I don't think it's the end all and be all of Zelda games, though. I think it's the father of modern Zelda. The end of the beginning, if you will. It stands up amazingly well considering it's almost 20 years old but I think the newer games top it.

You mean with A Link to the Past, it all made sense.

I disagree that it is the father of modern Zelda though. That would be Ocarina of Time and its spirit went into the handheld Zelda game The Minish Cap which followed a similar dungeon structure and had less focus on combat. The Oracles duo was also somewhat influenced by modern Zelda, but to a much lesser extent.

Goddammit. See--that's why I don't like having anybody in the room with me when I'm posting.  Too many distractions.  You do make a good point, though.  I'll keep trying to find a flaw in your logic because I hate being wrong, though.

Twilight Princess.

I adored every moment in Skyward Sword, don't get me wrong, it was a masterpiece, but there were so many sacrifices to the overall Zelda experience that I was disappointed in a lot of ways, even if amazed in many others.

Twilight Princess had this incredible, magnificent world, full of secrets to find (the total lack of them was my biggest problem with Skyward Sword), with a lot of dungeons, a lot of areas to explore, a large and amazing world map, a lot of interesting moves and weapons for Link (another massive flaw with Skyward Sword), interesting towns and minigames and just so much to do.
Also, the overall desing was amazing in Twilight Princess, the world was way more interesting and atmospheric that Skyward Sword's.

A Link to the Past. I should really play MM, though. One of the few people I know whose opinion I actually value absolutely adores it. (Her favorite game of all time, actually) But as it stands, my list is

1. ALttP
2. LA
3. LoZ (original)
4. SS
5. OoT
6. TP
7. WW
8. ST

Link's Awakening.

The more I look back on my time with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the more impressed I become. Especially when I look at it in relation to the other Zelda games I've played. To be honest, the game's biggest strengths (combat, boss battles, temple design, and overall flow) have led me to notice how other Zeldas (especially Wind Waker) don't stand up as well as they did before Skyward Sword came along and showed me the light.

So for now my list of favorite Zeldas is in limbo... and Skyward Sword is to blame!

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64/3DS)
2. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

The rest... I really can't decide right now! I have to think about it more...

I haven't finished Skyward Sword yet but I know it has too many little annoyances to ever top A Link to the Past.

Signature goes here!

After finishing SS twice, I can say that it's nowhere near my favourite Zelda game.
Ocarina of Time remains my personal favourite with Majora's Mask at the 2nd place.
To be honest, I'm actually quite disappointed with Skyward Sword, I wouldn't even call it a 'great' game...

Previously I would have picked OOT, but LTTP is a really close 2nd... this time both are definitely eclipsed by SS. Its just a great all around Zelda title.

OoT was my favorite Zelda but SS beats it! sure its not perfect but its an amazing game!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Most definitely Skyward Sword.

Note, however, that until that game came out it was Four Swords Adventures on GameCube. Whenever you make a poll, it's important to have an 'other' option unless it is a yes or no question. What if someone's favourite is Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Four Swords, Link's Awaking, or the Oracle games? You have to take that into account.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
