From the 6 or so hours I've played of Final Fantasy VI, so far, the story and characters have been pretty terrible.

Won't add much more than what people have already added to this thread. FFVI is still amongst the best scripts for any RPG ever made (and I agree with the user with the Tellah avatar who says FFIV's script is the best) and still holds up spectacularly to modern standards if not much better as well (if anything, modern standard scripts are extremely lackluster).

There's a reason why Kefka is still considered as one of the most brilliant villians ever concieved in any video game

It's also worth mentioning that FFVI has one of the best soundtracks ever made.

The beginning is quite slow but it gets better by the end. Out of all the FF antagonists Kefka is one of the only ones to actually complete his objective. (You kill him on his throne of dead espers.) It's a pretty epic fight also, after killing him then moving onto FFVII Septhroth was a push over. You use all of your characters in the fight, and move up his throne until you reach him. My first time meeting him even with a good number of my charaters fully trained it was a close battle... And Dancing Mad stands up with One Winged Angel (The song is over 17mintues long also.)

For me simply the best FF ever. Get it.

Easily, imo it's the best FF game as well as one of the best rpgs along with games like Chrono Trigger.
