Forums - Nintendo - The Wii isn't perfect, and I'm not either

So, yesterday I was hanging out at my girlfriend's place and we decided to do what we usually do for excercise...  Play the Wii.  What were you thinking?  She decided that it was time to wipe the dust off of that thing and fire it up.  I asked her what she wanted me to put into the slot and she said the original Wii Sports.  I put it in and chose the most popular selection - Bowling.

The first game I had a score in the low 200's.  While I was playing it, I had a warm and fuzzy feeling not just due to nostalgia, but because it was actually still a heck of a lot of fun.  I was a little upset that I was throwing a pink, sparkly bowling ball but was still thoroughly enjoying myself.  The next game is where my story truly begins...

My first three frames I had a strike and my lady asked me if I had ever bowled a perfect game.  I told her no and thought to myself that I probably never would.  The next three frames were all strikes.  I started to think to myself, "Is it possible?"

Every time I had the shot lined up perfectly.  Every time the perfect spin.  Every time a strike!  Before I knew it, I was in the final frame and was still perfect.  I have to admit that I was a little nervous on the first throw.  I lined it up and threw it.  It felt perfect coming off of my hand and bam!  Another strike!  The next throw I felt as though I had short armed it.  The spin wasn't looking right.  It was going to be a 7 - 10 split.  That was it.  As it left my hand, I said aloud, "That's it. I blew it."

I didn't blow it.  It looked ugly, but was a strike!

This was it.  The moment of truth.  The final throw.  Nothing was stopping me.  I had it in the bag.  I lined it up perfectly.  It felt great leaving my hand.  The spin looked good.  The ball hit the pins and they all went flying...

All except one.  That darned 7 pin.  It looked like it was going down, but for some reason a pin went exactly sideways directly in front of it.  I would have expected a profanity laced tirade to come from my mouth, but all that came out was,  "Really?  One freakin' pin?"

I sat and looked at the score that read 299 for several minutes.  I blamed everything from the sparkly pink ball, to the game's whacked out physics, to myself.  The game's physics.  Yeah!  They were the real culprit.  There is no way that pin would have went on a 90 degree angle in real life.  Then I reflected and said to myelf that there's no way I could bowl a 299 in real life.

I thought longer.  I thought about how I have been one of the Wii's biggest supporters and also one of the Wii's biggest critics.  There was no denying that Wii Bowling is ridiculously fun, but these are definitely not 1:1 controls.  The game was evidence of that.  Stupid Wii and the lack of quality 3rd party games.  Stupid inaccurate controls.  Stupid Nintendo for abandoning this machine that has given me endless hours of fun.  Stupid me for not bowling a 300.

I guess that the Wii's not perfect, and I'm not either.

As I was saying to d21lewis, so was the ending.

Oh please.  A little innuendo never hurt anyone.

The thread is obviously about my disappointment in nearly throwing a perfect game.  It's also about my disappointment in the Wii while I still love it.

I was using my near perfect game as an analogy to show that people shouldn't get as upset as they do about perceived failures.  My game was a success and the Wii was a success.

Herman Cain's political campaign was not...

Wii Sports Resort Bowling is a lot tougher since it seems to be a lot more varied when you throw it. The sweet spot is harder to obtain in the Resort due to the motion plus picking how you hold the remote more.

I have yet to even get 300 on the original although I had a friend get 300 using Michael Jackson Mii character.   I believe my high is around 280 or so for the original.
