Oh I'll definitely savor SSBB, NMH, MKWii, and TOS:KoR when they come out don't worry.

Just to one specific thing, if Fire Emblem had been changed or evolved to try and lighten up the new series, everyone would be bitching about how they made it worse or some crap like that.
The always hypocritical thing when people complain something is too close to teh same as the original, is you know if they had changed it in the slightest, then those same people would bitch and complain about it not being like the old games and ultimately worse. And people wonder why devs hardly welcome change. Why should they when their buyers always want the same old crap to come out, except when you do it expect them to complain alot. Like what people did after Zelda: TP released, even know it was retarded. Yea I'm talking to you Jeff who used to be with Gamespot.
I on the other hand welcome change, while also welcoming enhancing something that's already there. Just for the topic though, I don't think out of all the devs out there, that the rants need to be placed with Nintendo. Hell just introducing something as different as motion sensing controllers in the market and fully backing it, is more than any company has done before. And I think its payed off, despite the backlash of those same old people who bitch and complain about change who would also bitch and complain if Nintendo stuck the same way. Point taken. I think so.
Yes, sadly I think that SRPG is too niche a genre for Nintendo to feel they could take a risk by revolutionizing Fire Emblem.
Remember that like the rest of us (John Lucas excepted), Nintendo couldn't be sure that the Wii would take off. They were prepared for a Gamecube-like reception from the start. Only their most reliable franchises, made by their top dev teams, could afford to push the limits. All of the supporting titles that Nintendo uses to broaden the scope of their games library had to be safe bets, because if the Wii had gone down the path of the GC, the sales would be pretty lean.
I'm hoping that the vast financial success which innovation has earned Nintendo in the past couple of years will lead to riskier and more ambitious games being developed. They can afford to go places that other developers don't have the money or the ingenuity to go, and I hope they'll take me with them. :)

Pokemon BR seems to be a rushed launch title. Given the Wii's success I don't see a need for Nintendo to rush out any of their games, so they should pretty much all come with the quality of SMG and MP3:C. Franchises that don't have a sequel announced yet, should sooner or later get one. |
SMG and MP3:C look like their Gamecube counterparts (recently saw a gametrailers comparison of SMG and SMS). Otherwise, being Gamecube games shouldn't limit pushing a series. At least Super Paper Mario had a unique concept despite being a Gamecube port.

Mario Party always was developed by Hudson Soft, the games always sold well, so they most likely won't change that much in future installments. Pokemon on consoles was always at best a secondary issue for Nintendo, the series always seemed better suited for the handhelds. Golden Sun games were both developed by Camelot, also responsible for several Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games. @Tifa There were 3 FE games on the SNES. |
Mario Party games sold worse and worse through the series, with a minor bump for the first Gamecube game. Games usually sell better when they are the first of a series on a new console. Granted, Mario Party 8 sold really well. We'll see if it tapers off again. If they actually improve everything wrong with the series I'll get back into it (currently have 8 way down on my gamefly list despite having played 1-7 with friends' consoles).

I think it'll change With Wii due to the demographics
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

First off.. how in the hell does your point about gametrailers comparison of SMG and SMS relate in any way or form to MP3:C (which was clearly graphically superior to MP2 - anyhow, that wasn't even the selling point for me [the controls were] so i won't bother delving deeper into that)
Next, didn't you get owned in the other thread about SMG and SMS looking alike? Actually.. it might have been Legend.. go back to the thread that was created about that very same comparison video, and maybe you'll understand how wrong you are
