Well, to be fair it hasn't shifted, yet.  But if it comes out that Sony outsold AND outshipped, it may.  But, I'm going to try and have faith in the VGC community that it won't.  We'll see how that works out for me.

its all that ballmer guys fault. if he didnt come out with " we're the hardware leader for 2011" statement, the forums would not have went crazy these past few weeks.

Turns out, it wasnt over 66M, US was overtracked and its looking that Europe isnt undertracked by much if at all as well given that once its all said and done, there are 2M units sitting around the world in store shelves which sounds about right.

MS have declared 65.8 shipped - it's official.  Ballmer either rounded up a bit or simply included (probably simply by error) some early Jan shippments.

I doubt there will be meltdowns much at this point.  They'll come if PS3 shippments put it ahead for the year overall.  Either way both consoles sold very, very well worldwide I'd say.


how do you round up 65.8M to over 66M? either the dude who was feeding him info was an idiot or he was lying through his teeths

Well, if shipments are flat for the year, it would put shipments at the very least at 6.8 million.  But considering sales have pretty much been slightly up or flat in most of the regions for the year, shipments should be almost guaranteed to be at least 7 million.  I'm thinking it will be just short of 7.5 million (7.3-7.4).

What is the point of this thread? To get Sony fanboys voting for one of their favorites options, this is really stupid. You should at least add other option (in favor of Microsoft oo)

I don't think he was necessarily lying.  He was basically including January shipments.  They know in January they are going to ship over 200K consoles, so they just went with over 66 million as their announcement.  His wording made it seem like he was talking just about 2011, but I'll give him a break, as he seemed very excited.

Well, the a lot of numbers are coming out (including that MS only shipped 65.8 million as of 2011 and not over 66), and they are pointing to the 360 not being undertracked.  As I said above, Option 2 (with a little Option 3 thrown in) was the real answer.

well, if you trust VGC numbers, PS3 sold 6.37M during the last quarter. Inventory left over after september was, using VGC sales numbers, was around 1.55M, given that the PS3 usually has around 1.55m units sitting around all day doing nothing, Sony would ship at least 6M and probably go as high as 7.5M which is highly improbable.
