Seriously, this thread is embarrassing, some of the "analysis" is banal, juvenile and frankly based on nothing but bias and an agenda.

Can we just wait for shipments please and stop playing at having a clue.

Microsoft has CLEARLY said over 66M SOLD, not shipped. Why do people keep trying to say it is shipped?

And Sony and Nintendo have yet to refute MS's claim that 360 won 2011 globally. VGC numbers are very loose estimates. To think they have better numbers than Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, who have the ACTUAL sales figures, is ludicrous. Public companies don't just make up numbers since they are bound by laws to report accurate financial figures.

There is a lot of Sony wishful thinking in this thread. It's hilarious.

Question is, where the f**k are they selling them. It's overtracked in US and France - one of bigger European markets, and story shouldn't be too different in the other Europe markets(practically on par or slightly overtracked/undertracked) but not significantly. I just can't see where they SOLD that many, most likely SHIPPED, they've pulled a Sony on this one and said "sold" instead of "shipped" like they used to.

It's shipped, then even that's a lot of inventory. The fact that they've announced that they were the best selling console is what puzzles me the most, internal tracking after all, but they haven't disclosed WHERE they were selling them and it is quite annoying, but not like they owe it to us or anything.

My guess is that the difference is that PS3 is being overtracked in Europe mainly, and in other smaller areas like South America, the Middle East and Mexico/Canada.

360 is probably undertracked a bit in those territories as well, but IMO, it is mainly that PS3 is being overtracked by VGChartz in the areas with no formal tracking and reporting.

We all know that VGChartz sales figures for Europe can be very, very wrong in a big way, right? The numbers in Europe have never really been confirmed in any real way by any real source. The shift in PS3/360/Wii in Europe between VGChartz and actual sales can easily be in the 2 to 3 million+ area.

PS3 being overtracked doesn't changed the 360 shipped numbers in any way..

Even if it is overtracked in Europe, it won't be a significant amount, if anything 360 might, but there is a very slim chance of that being the case too. Maybe booming markets in East Asia, but then again, that's Sony land. So interesting to know where those 360's went as the #s can be up to 66.9, since rounding up would pretty much result in a shitstorm.(ie, it's highly unlikely that the number is below the given 66).

We already have France's numbers, which makes up a decent portion of EU totals, and the PS3 looks spot on, while the 360 is overtracked by at least 100K.  About the 66 million "sold", there's just no way the regions that are outside of US,EU, and Japan are going to be able to push those 2 million consoles more than what VGC already has for those regions in just 3 months.

Just to illustrate my point, if we take the total of 360's sold in the year 2010 (I use 2010 because we already have had adjustments for that year), we have ~13.38 million.  Now after you take away the US, EU, and Japan, you are left with ~1.94 million for entire year in those regions you have listed (plus Africa and Asia).  That's only 485K each quarter on average.  Granted the last quarter will be larger than the previous, but nothing over 1 million.  So I don't really see any other possibility then that they are sold to retail, not customer.
