Forums - Microsoft - Did 300 Workers at an Xbox 360 Factory Threaten Mass Suicide?

So is this what really happens when you support an "American" console?

They (Foxconn) make stuff for Sony and Nintendo as well, nice try by the way.

Man it's so sad that there are still such horrible working conditions in this day and age :/

Fracking greedy corporations.

They work 12 hrs a day 6 days a week for just a few dollars so that you can enjoy sophisticated low cost electronic entertainments.

This is not limited to MS, and it's not limited to game consoles.

Not limted to China either, nor oppressive totalitarian regimes. Remember how America got wealthy off cotton. Europe did pretty well out of slaves too. Do-gooders and labour unions were the death of ultra-cheap labour in the west; damn them.

It is not new that we all live on the back of the third world, but i'm glad they have these nets now, so that problem is solved.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

And they have anti-suicide nets around the factory?  wth?  Would love to see the pictures.

A running jump off the roof and you'd surely clear the nets.

or they can aim for the support beams.

Why not: make smash-proof windows that don't open; and prevent access to the roof. Except for the executives, who would be duty bound to commit suicide if they ever epicly failed to meet their KPIs.

Or just better working conditions so the employees want to live and work there.

It boggles me that they spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to put up and maintain these nets, yet people are saying the workers are only paid dollars a day.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

I don't know.  I could be wrong, but those things don't look too sturdy.  They would probably just break as soon as you hit them.

@ OP

I'm glad they decided not to jump.  But its also a good thing that their threat has been noticed, so maybe something can/will be done about it.  Have to wait and see.
