Forums - Sony - No PlayStation 4 at E3

I'm sorry but none of the things you posted proved your point.

Sony would not confirm anything of the sort until the hw was finalized and we know for sure that it wasn't finalized for quite some time. It's true they would start working on it since earlier but that doesn't mean they knew for sure what the final product will feature. For example we know they changed the design of the hw quite a bit and it was also rumored to have downgraded some specs and features..actually I believe someone from sony themselves said they had to exclude some features they initially planned due to costs

second link is the same..no immediate plans. Which was true..the unveiling was a bit off and even at the unveiling they made sure to mention they are finalizing the hw. We didn't get confirmation of all hw specs until much later, closer to Jp launch

They didn't?

My point: Sony will blatantly lie about it until the day they release it.

My links: Sony actively and blatantly lied about NGP/Vita's existence until the day they released it.

I don't see how my point wasn't made. Both deny a PSP2 and the last one was a mere six months out of official release. I also don't see why you're arguing the point. What company would admit they have a replacement product coming before they were completely ready to advertise and demo it properly?

Its not a bad thing Sony lies like this, its just good business.

I dont see them announcing anything at E3 either. Maybe next year and even that doesnt mean it will be at E3, doesnt Sony announce alot of their Hardware stuff at GamesCon?

no, in the most recent cases (PS3 and Vita), they were announced in Sony exclusive events in Tokyo first. Then demoed and discussed in full detail later at all major game shows.

no you didn't.

they did not lie in those statements. They had no current plans and they were absolutely right. They launched the device well over a year after that statement and even that was revealed way way later.

It almost seems like you are either reading too much into the statements or flat out seeing things that just are not there

let's break it down shall we

the claim by house

""No plans to discuss anything around next generation right now. I think it’s important that we keep our focus on building great content for the great devices we have out now."

how is that a lie? They weren't ready to discuss the PSV plans at the moment, nothing more nothing less. He is not saying it's not there or anything. So you are wrong there.

then the other link

"a SCEE rep told us in no uncertain terms that there were definitely no current plans for a PSP 2"

and this was early jan of 2009!!! The device was revealed in early 2011 and launched end of 2011, a good 2 year gap! he was not lying there either unless you have a different and somewhat bizarre definition of  the term 'current"

so I'm afraid you have yet to back up your claim there. The only reason I asked was I couldn't recall such an instance regarding the PSV since I have followed the system rather closely. Was wondering if I missed something

ok, you have a point. One is two years out and the other is more of a deflection than a blatant lie.

However, this is different times. 2009 was two years out of its official release an no big rumors were out. So its easy for Sony to state it doesn't exist. (Which is a lie as two years out it definitely existed in Sony and I am positive prototypes with touch screens and basic game demos were in house, that's just how consoles are created). Then by mid/late 2010 (months before release) they were just deflecting as tons of big rumors were already out and a flat out denial of its existence would look foolish.

We have same thing right now. Currently PS4 rumors are vague and the product is almost two years away (assuming late 2013 launch). Of course, right now they will deny it exists. However, they didn't unveil the Vita until January of the year it released (in Japan) as they were able to mostly keep its details hidden (at least well past that previous year's E3).

So with PS4, if MS is still undeclared (I'm still sure we'll see a neXtBox at E3) AND big rumors of PS4 haven't leaked, we might not hear about it at E3. But it will be launched late 2013 and thus it will be confirmed well before then. That I am certain of. Additionally, Sony will continue to state it doesn't exist until rumors become too much to overcome and then they will deflect its existence until the day they announce it.

see again you are seeing something that's not there. they never said the device is not there or in R&D stage or anything, they just said they have no immediate plans. which is pretty much true. I know and agree that planning for a new HW will start ways off but they would have changed a lot of things from the start until reveal. Why deny flat out about the next iteration of one of their products at all? Everyone, ms ninty sony all would start out on their next gen device just as the current one is released. That is not a shocker by any means. Ign and many sources can throw around as many 'rumors' as they want but as we saw most of them were flat out wrong. Waiting to say anything on the matter until something is close to being finalized is the smart and right thing to do. That way no false info and no misleading statements.

and I didn't even want to touch the ps4 topic but I will say this much. This not similar at all, currently we don't even have a decent rumor about the device. Not about the specs, capabilities, launch titles etc. Absolutely nothing. They are not really denying the existence at the moment either now are they? They are saying no current plans to unveil it which could be very well true. Heck they might be still debating if unveiling the device is a good thing at E3 this year. But at the moment I honestly don't see a reason to accuse them of lying.

I don't want to continue this as you're arguing semantics. (lying vs denial) However, its the same overall. They deny anything about a new product until they officially release it. The denials become vague as it comes closer. First its flat out denying its even being created, later its simply no comment or similar.

Vita's rumors in late 2010 were pretty much spot on with what was shown in January 2011. A touch screen device that is very powerful. Of course details as in processors and gpu were off here and there, many mockups were pretty much the same and only part I can think of that was completely not rumored until very close was the back touch panel. However, all details were known before NGP was officially released. As time got closer, of course they become more numerous and far more accurate.

Right now PS4 is same as early 2009 Vita stuff. Really rare and vague. Sony now isn't denying something exists, just that its not coming yet and by this thread, not at this coming E3.

I think it very well will show up at E3 as it gets closer and they realize MS is going to show something. But MS is doing well at hiding theirs and that is to their benefit as it could take Sony (and Nintendo) by surprise.

My original point is that just because Sony says this, doesn't mean it won't happen. It will depend on how MS handles their next-gen device and if Sony feels they must show something to stay competitive.

ugh I';m not even sure how you can call 'denial' and 'lying' as semantics lol they are nothing like each other and no you have yet to show me where  Sonyflat out denied that they are 'creating' the next gen handheld. You are just running around the obvious at this point

and no, the rumors were most of the time wrong. I'm not even gonna argue about this but trust me, I have followed the device much much closer than you have for certain, especially your comments about thse mockups being the same etc shows that. We only got some solid info on the device just 7 days before the release by a Japanese source. this I gurantee.

I never wanted to argue with your original point as I made clear in my very first response to you. Just wanted some clarification on the statement about the psv you made which turned out to be not true.

let's just leave it at that.
