no you didn't.

they did not lie in those statements. They had no current plans and they were absolutely right. They launched the device well over a year after that statement and even that was revealed way way later.

It almost seems like you are either reading too much into the statements or flat out seeing things that just are not there

let's break it down shall we

the claim by house

""No plans to discuss anything around next generation right now. I think it’s important that we keep our focus on building great content for the great devices we have out now."

how is that a lie? They weren't ready to discuss the PSV plans at the moment, nothing more nothing less. He is not saying it's not there or anything. So you are wrong there.

then the other link

"a SCEE rep told us in no uncertain terms that there were definitely no current plans for a PSP 2"

and this was early jan of 2009!!! The device was revealed in early 2011 and launched end of 2011, a good 2 year gap! he was not lying there either unless you have a different and somewhat bizarre definition of  the term 'current"

so I'm afraid you have yet to back up your claim there. The only reason I asked was I couldn't recall such an instance regarding the PSV since I have followed the system rather closely. Was wondering if I missed something

ok, you have a point. One is two years out and the other is more of a deflection than a blatant lie.

However, this is different times. 2009 was two years out of its official release an no big rumors were out. So its easy for Sony to state it doesn't exist. (Which is a lie as two years out it definitely existed in Sony and I am positive prototypes with touch screens and basic game demos were in house, that's just how consoles are created). Then by mid/late 2010 (months before release) they were just deflecting as tons of big rumors were already out and a flat out denial of its existence would look foolish.

We have same thing right now. Currently PS4 rumors are vague and the product is almost two years away (assuming late 2013 launch). Of course, right now they will deny it exists. However, they didn't unveil the Vita until January of the year it released (in Japan) as they were able to mostly keep its details hidden (at least well past that previous year's E3).

So with PS4, if MS is still undeclared (I'm still sure we'll see a neXtBox at E3) AND big rumors of PS4 haven't leaked, we might not hear about it at E3. But it will be launched late 2013 and thus it will be confirmed well before then. That I am certain of. Additionally, Sony will continue to state it doesn't exist until rumors become too much to overcome and then they will deflect its existence until the day they announce it.
