For a first EU holiday, PS3 numbers were rather good, same with Japan. I don't think PS3 sales WW will fall under 360 in '08 either.

Next week I think it will.

Anyone wanna take that bet? It should be close either way but depending on the drop in Spain, the 360 might even take the PAL regions (that will be veeeeerrry tight if it does though).

PS3 needs some great games to come out, that is what is holding it back.

 I'm not about to take such a bet, I'm still unsure of how well the PS3 does in PAL regions when the really big and anticipated blockbusters aren't here yet. It'll be a tad slow until then, but the 360 is really not doing so well in Eu either considering the low price and massive game library.

Not shocked by the PS3 numbers in NA. In others, not so much either because of folks celebrating Christmas by the Julian calendar.

HAH! You don't ACTUALLY think anyone uses the Julian calendar anymore, do you?

No, but folks in Europe do.

The holidays are a beast - boosted numbers and the like - but while the numbers stay up? Of course not! And why did the PS3 see huge numbers during the holidays? Folks buying PS3s as gifts. When the holiday rush wears off, please give reasons why someone would buy a PS3 over a 360. Sure, gaming lineups, but is that enough to keep this going? Look at the numbers - how big the PS3 leads were. They are shrinking. For a machine that's supposed to be dominating, it's gonna be a long year for the PS3.

The 360, problems and all, still has the largest and best lineup for any next-gen console.

Yeah, the 360 will likely lose this week, but the margin between the PS3 and 360 in sales will soon vanish. Goodness, look at the NA numbers vs. the Others numbers. There's just like 2K difference!

I am telling you - there's no compelling reason for folks to buy a PS3 - or even a 360 right now. The real thing the 360 offers is a lower price point for next-gen gaming. And you can even pick up a used 360 at Gamestop for just $199.

As someone stated earlier, check out the attach rates. If they surge, the domination is real. If not, pull out your crying towels ....

hmmmmm...

I personally expected 75K+..

as for worldwide ps3 will get a decent lead over 360 this week..

Yes Spain probably led to this big lead, but even if the spanish holiday wasn't there I don't think ps3 would've sold that low to diminish that lead

The real problem may arise when Japan drops which will happen after DMC4 in feb....

@Xponent

Never will the ps3 this year drop below the Xbox 360 and thats a predicition.

Are you saying PS3 will outsell 360 worldwide every single week or do you mean in total worldwide sales for 2008 PS3 will never fall behind 360?

@madskillz

pulling out crying towels??

I excpect M$ to be doing that now..

PS3 equalling 360 in sales in the holiday season despite being against the "best holiday lineup in gaming history" (M$'s words....not mine)

HD-DVD now almost dead..

 Yeah, but be the end of Feb, we've have moved closer to the game titans laying in wait. It can survive a couple of drier months so long as the numbers pick up around spring when one blockbuster or another is bound to hit. (They're slow in the coming, aren't they...)

@darth

I know what you mean!

The PS3 is yet to release any of its 'big hitters' and the 360 seems to have released quite a few (halo 3 being the main one) yet the PS3 still sells the same, or outsells it...

That must be painful to see :P

@mummelmann

GTA IV will do for Ps3 in EU what it will do for 360 in NA....

TBH

SONY need Japan now, the best Eu can do is Balance out NA, we need FFXIII out for Japan...

MGS4 I don't think will have a huge impact in NA, GT5 will, Killzone if it gets 9.0 + everywhere will...

LBP n HOME could be HUGE, they could be COLOSSAL if done well, marketed well & if they catch on huge leaps will be made by Ps3

for Japan however, just give em the FFXIII n Ps3 will stay ahead of the 360
