In terms of Power and graphics: PS3
In terms of Third Party Support: Playstation 3
In terms of First Party Support: Equal imo
In terms of Controllers: The Playstation 3 Dualshock

Also by comparison of sales to Wind Waker, according to VGChartz (cause I cant use any/too lazy to find another source) , Uncharted 2 sold more than Wind Waker (of course not sure when sales numbers for wind waker was stopped).

Yes, however, Wind Waker had almost a 25% attach ratio.

Attach ratio? What do you mean o.O?

Gamecube: 21.75 Million => 4.55 Million = 20.91% of the Gamecubes have The Wind Waker.

PS3: 55.79 Million => 5.42 Million = 9.71 % of the PS3s have Uncharted 2.

Oh that lol

A franchise thats been around for 5 years or less cant really compete against a grand franchise thats been around 20+ years ;p.

Also at the OP, instead of saying that the GCN is a better overall console, you should of pitched in actual facts between the two systems to the customer:

PS3
-More Software Available at the time
-Better third party support
-Multimedia base
-Free Online

GCN
-Cheaper to afford
-Games cost less (the ones that can be found, some online as well)
-More Compatiable (?)

see i would do that, but you are assuming that we are dealing with a logical person here lol.

the fact is that we werent, and thats why i wanted to lay out one argument as to why the gamecube can be better than the ps3 (quality games). he is basically blinded by fanboyism, i know you more than likely have seen a case like that. well reasoned arguments discussing the pros and cons of each doesn't get through to people like that.

First, I read a thread questioning whether or not the PS3 is a success. Now, people have even began comparing it to the GAMECUBE!

Not a very good start to the year for the PS3.

LOL

i know.

i remember a thread back when ps3 was around 20 million sold, there was a thread titled 'cheer up ps3, you just passed gamecube!'

it was hilarious. similar sentiments in that thread.

GC and PS3? Well if my gf want GC I want her to think twice, I prefer to buy a Wii (you know why)
But if she want PS3, good for her!
Personally, if I dont have both of the system I prefer to buy PS3.

I had two gamecubes and I buy plenty of GC games for my Wii. But I have enjoyed the PS3 when I have played it. Played it a lot while wasting American tax payer money in Afghanistan.

The GC had a lot of good reviews, (added most the critic review for it here so I can say I am somewhat of a GC review expert). Plus when the Xbox and PS2 had a Multi plateform game the GC usually had it as well.

It is close IMO, but just the magnitude of the games these days is enough to beat the GC.

Easily PS3. Gamecube was Nintendos darkest age. I am not a fan of the Wii at all, but game wise it is way better than the GCN, and has been much more of a joy to own.

PS3 on the other hand has been Sony's best showing from a games only point. It has got all of the amazing franchises PS is known for, and Sony has built the most skilled, and innovative game studio on the planet. Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Killzone, God of War and Uncharted are all timeless.

Most importantly, I go back and play Xbox, PS1, PS2, NES, SNES, N64, and some handheld games. I have not hooked up the GCN since RE4.

the bolded statements, i think we could look at those as objectively as possible and agree that they are true. however, i do think its quite telling that nintendo's darkest period still beats out sony's best when it comes to first party titles. again, i will reference the fact that a lot of first party gamecube games are already considered classics, they have held their value, and they are always going to be higher on a top 100 games list above ps3 exlusives.

but honestly, lol, anybody can have any opinion they want, thats fine, but you have crossed a line. claiming that sony has the most innovative game studio on the planet. dude, little big planet is probably your best case, but its still just a side scrolling platformer. come on. heavy rain? the interactive movie? i dont want to compare it to the types of games that the sega cd had but... well, let me just say im glad that every game on the ps3 is not like that lol. infamous? no comment. killzone wow. yeah your standard fps war game. killzone is by far your weakest example. come on dude, that just makes you look desparate. god of war is great, dont get me wrong, but we are talking innovative here. uncharted, even though it is one of the best games this gen, has still been done a million times over. uncharted may have perfected what has been done before, but that IS NOT innovation.

i just dont understand how we can take what youre saying seriously when you make those claims.

On the subject of games holding value, I don't get your argument. A game only holds value if it is a commodity. Games that become legend years after release that only sell 150k will always sell at a higher value, than a game of the same quality and prestige that sold 15M. Thats just an example, so don't go thinking I am saying GCN games only sold 150K.

As far as the games on PS3. I was giving an example of both the (skill) and innovation. I would only put Heavy Rain, and LBP in the innovation category (also Mod Nation). Sorry to here you did not like HR, it is not everyone, but it is the most unique experiance I have had this gen. As far as Killzone, Uncharted, God of War, and Infamous go, they all are from my experiances this gen, the best in there respective catagory. Those are the titles I have went back to the most on PS3. Gran Turismo, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Socom, those games IMO have seen better experiances from Wii, 360, or 3rd parties in their respective genres.

I am not out to have a war over PS3 and GCN. I just feel PS3 has been better all around, I don't hate the GCN, there were great times with that system. It's just that I find most other platforms more desierable to return to.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. You sold her a Gamecube? Why didn't you just sell her a used Wii?

Anyway, Gamecube was awesome. Ton of great memories with that console. The PS3 is awesome, too. It depends on the type of games that the customer was/is into.

trust me, i would have, but she was totally just wanting to play some gamecube games and she wanted expensive ones. lol. i didnt even bother asking because she already knew the price of the wii and was not trying to spend too terribly much.

it was funny though because she DID say, "hah, i got all this for 135 dollars. way less than that ps3 and your one game that you got." to her boyf.

Gamecube to me is an odd console. It is certianly underrated and didn't deserve only 21 million sales IMO, but at the same time had sort of an image problem (weird purple lunchbox look, bizzare controller), and its library was nowhere near the PS2 in quality, and this is coming from a Nintendo fan. It also was hindered somewhat by its mostly gaming media branded "kiddie" image, much like the Wii with its "casual" image, which people were brainwashed into believing.

But still, it had some very good games, and some of which remain some of my favorites of all time. Metroid Prime, Donkey Konga, Eternal Darkess, RE4, Tales of Symphonia, Smash Bros Melee, etc. I think the main problem that killed the console is its image, from the weird appearence of the hardware itself, to the hit games that didn't really appeal to a mass audience and were primarily niche games. Also, I believe Sean Malstrom is on to something with his theory that the lack of a classic 2D Mario game really hindered it.

For me it would entirely depend on how obnoxious the guy was being. If he was nice about it I would ask the lady what kind of TV she is going to game on, if she wanted to play in HD, etc. (Although, since bf has a PS3 wouldn’t a different system make since?)

Background: I’m the guy that like to rush to the defense of an employee being battered by an overly aggressive probably coming down from a crack/coke binge crazy customer. I realize I can ‘rescue’ them in a way a fellow employee can’t. (I stopped a similar berating at a popular game store from an obnoxious sweaty customer deciding between a Wii and one of the HD twins. After about half an hour with, “If you don’t like it, you can return it, why not try it out an see?” The creepy Troll was like, oh, someone challenged me! Must roll over and do what they say.)

Anyway, if the guy was a jerk I would have troll baited him, “PS3? Oh, golly do they still make those? Then why is Sony was making games for the X360.”

And just watched the hilarious melt down. (Possibly jump in if needed with, "But they ARE bringing Little Big Planet to the Xbox in June at E3.")

Anyway, a bit unfair with different gens, but a curious question. I guess much depends on how many games to you want to play by spending X dollars.

PS I’m usually rather quiet in person, just can’t stand crazy customers going off on trapped employees.

LOL i really enjoyed reading that post.

i want to let you know, however, that it was in no way a situation of him going off on me as a poor employee lol. if anything, i did kind of provoke it based off of comments here and there that the two were making.

i understand what you are saying. a lot of times, the most expensive games are games of high quality, but their value is dictated by how hard the game is to find. this is simple supply and demand. on the other hand, these nintendo gamecube classics we are talking about are by no means hard to find, but the market still finds them very valuable. now this next part i want to say is not verifiable because this gen isnt over, but i have a suspicion that by the time the ps3 has been dead for five years, the market is not going to find them as valuable as gamecube games are now, or even then. as i said, this cannot be verified yet, but we can make educated projections. what do you think?

the only game you have listed there that i have not played is heavy rain, but i have seen enough to come to the conclusion that it is not, as you claim, a game that is an example of sony being the most innovative developers in the industry. i have it, i am going to play it, i am going to love it, but its not the pinnacle of innovation. dude im sorry but infamous and killzone are such bland games. ive played the hell out of both. theyre just not.. what youre making them sound like. god of war and uncharted though, i agree the best of their genres. but that does not equal innovation.

I am not out to have a war over PS3 and GCN. I just feel PS3 has been better all around, I don't hate the GCN, there were great times with that system. It's just that I find most other platforms more desierable to return to.

Ehhh, I wasn't a fan of the gamecube. I'm not that big of a fan of the PS3 either. But between, PS3,PC. There's enough great games. My favorite games this gen have been mostly multiplat or on DS or PSP.

Favorite PS3 Games
1) Demon Soul's Quite easily the best PS3 game. I'm not sure why, I'm not as big a fan of Dark Soul's.
2) Wipeout HD (A PSP remake XD)
3) Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: A brilliant game... downloadble. Most fun co-op I've ever had.
4) FFXIII equal to my least favorite FF last gen... which I still liked a lot.

Favorite Gamecube Games  are all inferior imo to the previous generations iterations of said franchise aside from SSBM which I don't like that franchise that much
1) Mario Sunshine
2) Zelda TP
3) Zelda WW
4) SSBM
