If Sony bundles and does special holidays deals on Move and PS3s like they did this year, but keep the $249 price, then Sony will have a very strong holiday next year.

Kinda makes me think that maybe Sony did the price cut this year, so they can sit at this price for a few years, but put a new release game in a system package to add "value".

I think that Sony will drop the price by $50 again next year.

They might well.  Both MS (despite the fan stance of "no price cut") and Sony manipulated price heavily in 2011 and I think both will do so in 2012 too.

The key is to understand that 360 is much more seasonal and sells the most in a few territories while PS3 sells less seasonally in more territories.  The best pricing strategy for 360 is therefore less changes to RRP and to focus on heavy discounts( via promotions) during seasonal peak. The 360 shifted a huge amount of consoles last 5 weeks or so and all of them were heavily discounted.  The best pricing strategy for a less seasonal PS3 is RRP price cuts with less promotions in seasonal peaks.

If MS price cut RRP more often it would likely no be worth the smaller boost outside seasonal peak and it would mean, due to the now established lower RRP, that seasonal promotions would have to be even heavier - meaning seriously eating into margin for peak sales.  Now if Sony did this they would be unable to stimulate their larger chunk of non-seasonal sales and would only stimulate their smaller seasonal sales.

Both use price to drive demand quite aggresively, but in line with each consoles noticably different sales pattens and geographic focus.

Now Sony would probably prefer to change RRP less often, but I think now they will be locked into regular RRP changes.  MS (who arguably are in a somewhat better position in some ways) can afford to leave RRP unchanged for longer so long as they get the holiday promotions right and grow install base enough in those vital peaks.  Both chose to lose margin to achieve their sales goals, Sony has to do so over flatter sales for the whole year and MS does so only at specific times of the year.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Nooo 360 beaten by PS3. Well since the holidays are over.........and since 360 has been selling on 2008 prices this whole time (!).......they will cut the price in 2012. Sooner the better.

But seeing 3DS vs Vita sales puts a smile on my face

Cheapest 360 in Holiday 2008 was $299 (Price cut from $349 20GB). Nowadays you can get one for $200. That isn't 2008 price.

THANK YOU!! Finally.

good lord, we can all pretend Microsoft hasn't actually cut the price "officially" but we all know they keep shuffleing their sku's around, coming out with the slim, adding larger hard drives, bundling Kinect, games, and all of that now is the same price, (or less depending on the bundle) than the 360 was in 08.

. but yeah no pricecut since 2008..

seriously,it's not "pretend",look at PS3's price from 2008 to 2011,you should know why they said 360 just no price cut

PS3's sku isn't still 60 or 80 GB and looks large right?

PS3 HD sizes are growing, but everything else keeps beeing downgraded: less usb ports, matte case, no leds, smaller fans ....

X360 slim had more value for the same price: build wifi, more usb-ports, Kinect power port ... And in europe X360 had a small price cut last year: the glossy 250GB SKU was replaced by the cheaper matte 250GB SKU.

What I learned from reading this thread:

Saying that 3DS vs. Vita sales numbers causes you to smile causes contreversy.

Saying that you hope the 360 and PS3 "rape" the Wii in 2012 is perfectly ok though.

Interesting numbers all around. I have a feeling that Europe might be the Vita's saving grace... it'll be fun to watch and find out.

lol, ikr?

The Wii is also on top.
Best selling SD home console for 2011.

Yeah, but does it really deserve praise, but it's also the only SD......

*processing*

......

..... OOOHOHO! I see what you did there with the Wii and the SD. You tried to trick me into thinking you were serious..

Good joke man. You are a character.

Ps2 still sells so wii 's not the only one.

impressive for MW3 to be top selling game (even though its on 2 systems) in US and UK in 8 weeks.

The game is now around 2+ million ahead of Black Ops on the Xbox and its actually increasing per week.

so sales of well over 15 million are assured.

Oh no, it's back!

I'm editing that post now.

They have the same catalogue price. So what are you talking about? Discounts at stores?

No, I'm talking about catalogue prices.

X360 250GB glossy: http://www.amazon.de/Xbox-360-Konsole-Slim-glossy/dp/B003S3QT0Q/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1325859740&sr=8-4 (price is high because there's no more stock at amzon.de, but was 249€ in the past)

X360 250GB matte: http://www.amazon.de/Xbox-360-Konsole-Slim-schwarz-matt/dp/B005FPD0O8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325859740&sr=8-1 (dropped from €225 to €199 today, but I don't know if it's a permanent price drop. 4GB dropped from €189 to €177)

Take a look at amazon.it too, where the glossy 250gb sku is still available: http://www.amazon.it/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_it_IT=%C5M%C5Z%D5%D1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=xbox&x=0&y=0

You're talking about prices at amazon? These are not catalo-prices, these are discounts.

http://emea.microsoftstore.com/DE/de-DE/Microsoft/Xbox-360-S-Premium-250-GB

Official emea-price is still 249,99 €. Nothing changed.
