I know the week leading into Christmas for the 3DS is way up there, but I can't remember what the best week ever is, and I feel like there have been weeks in the past that surpassed that... including I think a Wii week that passed 2 million.

 

So what are the best weeks? Can someone help me out here in finding this out? If we can come up with a list of... perhaps the top 5 or 10, that'd be awesome.

its actually this week because vgchartz no longer tracks global sales for consoles prior to this generation. But including ps2 and GBA sales it would have probably been.

Man, the 3DS was so damn close in only its first year.

If you mean how high a single platform managed, then enrageorange just linked the best.

1. DS w/e 20th Dec 2008 with 2,114,585
2. DS w/e 22nd Dec 2007 with 2,043,008
3. DS w/e 26th Dec 2009 with 1,855,412
4. Wii w/e 26th Dec 2009 with 1,843,614
5. 3DS w/e 24th Dec 2011 with 1,786,398
6. DS w/e 27th Dec 2008 with 1,778,002
7. Wii w/e 19th Dec 2009 with 1,763,754
8. DS w/e 19th Dec 2009 with 1,741,057
9. DS w/e 15th Dec 2007 with 1,737,070
10. DS w/e 13th Dec 2008 with 1,699,385

Now although we can't view PS2 sales anymore, I remember checking them and it's highest week was either ~1,670,000 or ~1,770,000 so it should fit in somewhere between 7th and 11th... I think it also had 2 weeks in the 1.4 million range, 2 in the 1.2 million range and one in the 1.1 million range... but that was it, only 6 total weeks over 1 million, and only once was it 2 consecutive weeks over 1 million (whereas DS managed 5 consecutive weeks over 1 million in 2008 alone)

If you mean total hardware in a single week then without being able to see PS2 it's hard to tell, but I would hazard a guess at 2008,  which got to 5,959,914 w/e 20th Dec and the PS2 was still going ok then so probably added 300k or so. Or possibly 2009 which got to 6,049,399 plus whatever the PS2 did.

Ignoring the PS2, DS also comes in 11th, with the top non-December weeks sales at 1,640,109 for w/e 29th Nov 2008.
DS really had a phenomenal Q4 in 2008. Just short of 14 million sales for Oct+Nov+Dec.

It's amazing what the DS Lite and Mario Kart did for the DS. It sure as hell got me to buy one and it has the same effect for the 3DS. Embarrassingly though, Rayman 3D was what got me to purchase a 3DS since I adore Rayman 2 so much.

i own 3 dslites, had 2 dsphats that broke plus 2 launch ds phats that went defective ,
and i had bough 2 dsis so far 1 broke on me , so ya ds was a monster in part due to the hinge problems but then again its an awsome system same for the wii 3ds snes nes genesis ps1 ps2 dc and the original xbox, the hd twins not so much because they have to much of one genre, which hampers any collecting from me in the later yrs ,
sure ill pick up a few more games but -- - - they wont be new, and they wont be fpses , thats for sure

i have at least 100 fpses of the 225 games i own for xbox 360 i think i am done with that genre-- except if a 007 title is released , that would be the only exception !
