Horrific Vita sales .... it's the holidays for crying out loud, why arn't the Japanese lapping this up!

Number of reasons ranging from 3DS competition, price range, lack of UMD option (hurts the product if people are generally still into physical media).

It's not even the same system -- doing this makes no sense.

Anyway, it's fair to call it a disaster.

It hurts the product in the sense, people would go out and buy PSP instead of Vita. Given it only hurts people into physical products instead of digital. 3DS competition and price range were my main reasons, I just added the third one to say previous product going strong.

You are aware that the Vita does in fact use physical media right?

I keep seeing you mention that it hurts people into physical products, yet the Vita uses game carts.

Yes, sorry about the confusion, I meant PSP games Phsyical versus Digital on how that attributes to Vita Pros/Cons.

Basically the idea of 100% BC on sucessors.

Add: Also that wasn't really my main point. I should have honestly just said tough previous product strength (PSP) but thought that itself would be confusing since Vita can play Digital PSP games.

Whoa Vita did much worse then I was expecting. Is there a shortage or something?

If there is a shortage, it would no doubt be for the WiFi model, which is I am not mistaken also sold out in Hong Kong.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Thats pretty bad...

But wait until you see the weeks following the Western launch... now that WILL be horrific.

You sound so certain.

Maybe Sony will get it right and ship majority of WiFi rather than the not so needed 3G/WiFi model, which is clearly a mistake they made in Japan if you go by all the reports and data we have recieved thus far.

Actually that's a good second week for FFXIII-2.

Yeah, a quick glance at how FF games sell in Japan, I noticed the following trend:

1st week ~1.5m

2nd week ~200k

3rd week ~100k

then sales in the teens until it hits the bargain bins

That means XIII-2 should sell at 50k next week before it tanks.

FFXIII did 170k in its second week (that's a 87% drop). So I think a 77% drop isn't too shabby. We'll see how week 3 goes but so far it's showing better legs (percentage-wise) than FFXIII.

FFVII had a 84% drop.

FFVIII had a 89% drop.

FFIX had a 83% drop.

FFX had a 87% drop.

FFX-2 had a 88% drop.

FFXII had a 87% drop.

FXIII had a 87% drop.

FFXIII-2 has a 77% drop.

let me tell you something about %s.  *psst psst* they are used as a resort to make sales seem greater than they are without directly revealing any quantifiable values. It's analysis 101.

In other words, don't try that spin, not on me at least.  xD

But all previously listed titles started really huge if I am not mistaken. Taking that into account this drop is still a huge drop, but it looks significantly less because it had bad first week (by FF standards, not a bad week by normal games).

I'm just saying that there is a reason behind the better than usual drop for a FF game and it's probably because of word of mouth.

Yes but why didn't it drop the same as other FF games?

Probably because a lot of people held off before buying it as they were disappointed with FFXIII but now they hear it's a good game and they decide to buy it! If you have a better reason please do tell.

Another attributing factor could be the holiday season, but I know you could bring up Final Fantasy XIII sales into that, in which case maybe you right that word of mouth allowed it to stay a better precentage. However I am not going to say this a good week, simply based on the fact the overall sales is terribly low.
