The dramatic 3DS price cut happened after the official launch price of Vita was announced and many people got worried Vita would be considered too expensive and here we have relatively week launch sales. I think it's inevitable.


The only reason the 3DS got a price cut was because Nintendo overpriced it at launch. They were being kinda greedy.

But Sony had said that they are taking a loss on Vita, so there is no room for a price cut. Yes, it is expensive compared to the 3DS but there's a reason for that. Its a much more powerful system. All the Vita needs now is a killer-app.

The weak launch sales are due to it launching too late in the holidays, and strong competition from the 3DS which is being marketed towards kids. The DS is already being phased out so the 3DS is essentially taking its place. Sony needs to start phashing out the PSP to increase Vita sales.

Nintendo is technically targeting children, how many Rated T and M games do you think Nintendo even make? Yes, even if a game is rated E which is for Everyone, it was originally created to appeal to the younger age. (Which isnt a bad thing, their making millions on that idea).


A game without massacres does not mean kids game.  Hell I'm 52 and I enjoy Mario games because they are fun and very well made. My friends in my age group have a great time with cart. I would say they make games for everyone.  Although I do love goldeneye and COD games as well as well as resident evil.

It's funny because games like Cod probably have younger gamers on average than Mario games.

True I have seen parents purchase them for kids between 8-10 years old

Expanded audience=New kinds of people who never played video games. Mario games cannot be expanded market games since they aren't pulling  a whole new audience. They are more core games since they are only expanding a previous audience. Same goes with Nintendogs and Brain Age. 

If a game last generation is a expanded audience game. Next Gen it will be a core game.

I understand and your point is well takin but the ds and wii  Mario games had sales explosions such as hardly has been reached before.  But maybe as you say expanded audience games like  wii sports and the like  were the reason.

The DS and less extent of wii didn't need expanded audience games to succeed but a strong core can still cause growth.(Look at the GBA) The Core and Expanded were at their height on DS and Wii. Which explained their high sales.  3DS will do fine though. I expect the system to continue to do well. The decline will only continue past its prediction if Nintendo decides to abandon it.

I can't speak for everyone but I hate it now because the most recent series have been horrible. It was going downhill since 11. I avoided the mmorpg ones but 12 was barely okay and 13 was just absolute crap, it could just be a coicidence that their worst game by a large margin was a multiplat but the games have gone severely downhill.

Maybe the Japanese learned from the 3DS, if we do not buy price cut comes quick then buy. The question is how much are SONY selling vita at a loss for now? would a price cut hurt them too much this early?

Mind you when you look at the game line up I do not think most of those appeal to a Japanese crowd.

Nothing to do with it.

Strange. I remember posting about how much I hated FF XII back in 2007-08. Was that a multi platform game? Get your facts straight before you generalize. So many people hate on the game because it was horrible.

That said, I look back at FF XII now and it's a gem compared to XIII.
