Yes, never put the PS3 (or any electronic back in the box when you're finished. Actually, the fan will still run in most cases after you've power-downed the system.
Do not put them on carpet, and, All the heat's just going to travel inside the box while you're playing it. So, if you put it in that box (With all the heat already in it, it's not such a good idea.

Yes, fans will help, but, try to keep them out in the open. My PS3 sits by a window, So, it's good. You want to have space for the heat to escape, not build up, you know?

Just put it in the fridge, no dust and no over heating. 2 birds with one stone.

The bottom of my PS3 Slim gets pretty hot. Is it better to put the PS3 on top of something made out of metal or is it better to put it on top of something like paper which doesn't heat up as much as metal? I'm confused because people say metal is better because it conducts heat and lets heat pass through It but wouldn't the metal get really hot which would make the bottom of the PS3 Slim hot/hotter? I want my PS3 Slim to stay cool it sounds louder than my fat PS3 that I used to have. I want the PS3 Slim to sound quieter and run at a cooler temperature. PLEASE HELP.

BTW my PS3 Slim has space around it so ventilation isn't a problem.

So is it better on top of a hollow tin or on top of a hollow tin with paper on the rim?

The top of the tin is open and the paper won't block the hole. A strip of paper will be folded over the rim.

So please tell me which method will keep the PS3 Slim run cooler and quieter and tell me why you think that.

Please Reply. PLEASE.

I keep my PS3 always on the same place, I try to never move it from there. It must be placed at least 5 centimeters away from the wall, but I keep it like 30 centimeters away from it. The furniture is made of wood... I have one of those laptops fans below it, always plugged in.

Before turning it on, I clean the place around it so there's no dust to get into it while I'm playing... (dust will still get inside of it because the air itself carries dust, no way to get rid of that)... and then, I take the cloth I cover it with off the PS3, and clean the dust that's on the PS3 (not much, but there's a little even though it was covered).

Then I just play like normal... but when I'm about to turn it off, I exit the game and take it out of the console, then I keep the PS3 on for around 15 minutes doing nothing so the fans keep working and the PS3 cools down a little before turning it completely off. Then I turn it off and unplug it, and wait for around 30 minutes to give time to the heat that was inside of it to leave and then cover it again with the cloth completely without giving dust any space to get in the console.

A banner stolen from some site xD

Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII nowwwwwwwwww!!! lol :P

Why dont you just turn the PS3 off after playing? That probably cool it down quicker. Are you trying to say that the PS3 only gets hot when you are playing a game?

its not a problem, I still have my launch model and its fine. sometimes I go above 8 hours nonestop on weekends. I also use a cooling fan though, for just in case.

Maybe it's your picture of Satoru Iwata that's making the system hot?!?

My PS3 slim gets hot, but what are you comparing it too, a Wii? PS3 has a 3.2 GhZ CPU. It's a not a huge deal, I personally use a vertical stand on mine for better airflow around it, but it should be fine.
