I'm assuming you have a fat PS3. I have a Slim so it should be safe to turn it off straight after playing because Slims don't get the YLOD, right?

I agree with this. I just throw my PS3 in the fridge immediately after intense gaming sessions. It's been running perfectly since I've done this. OP, you should try this too. You will thank me later.

Yeah, I have a fat PS3, bought it in late 2009 so I've had it for around 2 years. It's a CECHL 01, 80GBs.

 

Well, I don't know if the Slims get the YLOD but I've seen some videos on YouTube showing Slims getting the YLOD... They look sort of fake though... so I'm not sure. There's nothing wrong with taking care of it just in case.
