Forums - Sales - Nintendo 64 Vs. Playstation Vs. Saturn

I would have to agree with the OP.

the PS deserved its 100m fan base for game selection and diverseness, but, as for game quality and genuine perfection neither of its competitors came close to N64.

What about wave race 64 or starfox 64 or new IP paper mario or Star Wars.

It was clear that even though the N64 had far fewer titles, it had far more top notch gems.

Btw, Pikmin was a GC game.

Sorry, you're right. Doh.

the N64 and GC kinda blurred into each other for me, as there wasn't that many games I liked on either.

Soul Blade had sidestepping too and that came out before Tekken 3.

As I have already said the European version of the game was slow. I sticked with playing Soul Blade which had much better gameplay mechanics and wasn't so much of a button masher.

Like I said, I wasn't sure if Tekken was the first one to introduce it.

People always say that the Tekken franchise can be called a "button masher," but that is so untrue. There are a few characters that allow you to press any button and the fighter will do constant hits (Eddy, Hwoarang, Bryan), but there are also a few fighters where just mashing buttons won't result in preforming well; where timing your combos, or preforming key counters, or grabbing your opponent and preforming a chain-combo was essential as well (King, Jin, Nina).

I can't believe how many people liked the PS. It stands to reason as it sold as well as it did, but, in retrospect, how is that even possible? I loved MGS (in retrospect, Hideo needs to retire or at least rein in his silliness), GT series, and SOTN as much as the next guy, but nothing else really stands out, except for the blocky sliding textures.

The PS would have to be my personal least favorite console of all time when disregarding anything that came before the NES.

The N64, yeah it didn't have near the quantiy of the PS, nor it's predeccessor. But what it did have are some

of the best games ever made. Even if there were only a small handful of them.

Still that generation is also my least favorite generation of all time. Come to think of it both kind of sucked as

consoles go.

Lastly, anybody who somehow thinks the PS had better graphics really needs to get their eyes examined, unless your talking about FMV, and in that case, it's a movie not actual gameplay, learn the difference.

Sorry, but the PS by miles. Some of the best games were brand new franchises.

Resident Evil, Gran Turisimo, Silent Hill to name just a few.

The best games for the N64 were just old franchises trotted out in 3D

Mario 64, Mario Kart and the Zeldas. Goldeneye is the only one I remember being new and REALLY highly rated.

Best original game on the N64 was Pikmin imho.

Except Mario 64, Zelda OoT, and so on literally re-invented entire genres for the 3D age. There weren't very many such innovations on the Playstation.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Time to Work !

The most fun I had with my PS1 was from ports from the SNES. I still liked it better then my N64.

That genertion was the dark age of gaming to me.
