Forums - Sony - Sony's Vita Trapped Between Nintendo Pricing, Smartphones

Don't even get me started on Metro UI.

Haha. Come on, you'll warm up to it eventually.

While I understand that we all have different tastes and preferences, I find metro UI quite well suited for a touch interface, which is where the tech world is heading it seems. Keyboard and mouse will always still be preffered on a desktop and for this Metro UI isn't necessary, but I'd much rather have Metro tiles lined up on my phone and tablet.

Around the Network

I do think Vita's launch price will keep it from selling more than it's main competition, the 3DS. But the hardware itself is great. But maybe Sony could have been more successful(with better pricing) with a weaker console.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Darth, I agree, but the article also forget to mention that gamers from previous generations arent necessarily switching to gaming light platform. There is still an audience for portable gaming platform. Never I would use my phone to game, and im not the only one, 3DS sales are a proof of that. I dont have any hard numbers, but im pretty sure that most of those phone gamers wouldnt purchase a gaming platform anyway. I expect PSP/DS like numbers.

I personally know only  2 people that bought a 3DS.  Both are hardcore gamers persay.  One of them sold his already because he enjoyed playing more on his work provided iPad.  Anectdotal?  For sure.  But to think that hardcore gamers aren't likely to make the switch would be quite the hopeful pov versus a realistic one.

The sales are there like they were 5 years ago, thats not anecdotal. I do agree phone/tablet gaming will not help the core portable gaming grows in volume though. Thats why I expect PSP/DS like numbers from both the 3DS and Vita.

I'll reserve my verdict for tablets later since Windows 8 isn't out yet, I hate W7P (also super inefficient libaries.) Basically moved from iOS to Android and never looked back. Picking up an Asus EEE Pad Transformer Prime 64GB next week, once ICS hits on that Tegra 3 piece, I'd be good for at least 2-3 years before turning that into a gift heh. Anyways, Metro is super hideous no matter how many times I look at it(and I look at it a lot since I'm always following tech news) don't think it'll ever really grow on me.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion obviously. All I can say is that a lot of people like the metro ui on wp7... including IGN which last week gave wp7 the nod for best smartphone interface.
