Teen Commits 'Suicide by Piranha' Bolivian leaps into river swarming with flesh-eating fish By Rob Quinn,  Newser Staff Posted Dec 8, 2011 12:40 AM CST (Newser) – An 18-year-old Bolivian picked a bizarre and gruesome way to commit suicide, police say. The intoxicated teen jumped out of his canoe into a stretch of river infested with piranhas and bled to death after suffering dozens of bites, the Sun reports. Police believe the death was suicide because the teen was a fisherman who knew the river well and was aware that it was swarming with the flesh-eating fish at this time of year. Earlier this year, piranhas attacked 100 beachgoers in Brazil.

Alcohol has some interesting pros and cons here. It may have caused the boy to commit suicide (poor inhibition), but it made it less painful (depending on how intoxicated the boy is).

It would have been more manly for him to jump in sober. Not saying that he should jump in at all, though.

Oh, and condolences to his family and friends. 

Not sure I could attribute "Manly" to a suicide. It is a shame that he was unable to find the help to get him through this part of his life. Unfortunately that kind of decision based on your current situation is kind of life shortening and we will never know what contribution he could of made to peoples live outside of putting them at risk trying to save him.

If he was drunk, he may have dropped something in the water and jumped in to get it, you do crazy things when you're drunk! Still though that's a pretty ansty way to go ...

Suicide or "Jackass" stunt gone wrong? Everybody knows the manliest way to commit suicide is to challenge a bear to a fistfight. Bonus points if it's a panda.

There's no manly way to commit suicide. They're pretty much all cowardish ways to escape some problems.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant, I just can't think of any 'manly' way to commit suicide right now.

Well, the argument could go both ways. Maybe you're just too chicken to commit suicide?

Regardless, it's still sad that death has to be the answer to the problems.

Is this a legit paper or is it that tabloid from the 80's that used to have all of those crazy headlines? I'm on my mobile and I don't feel like clicking the link. I mean, were there witnesses? This could be anything from an accident to a murder. I wouldn't just go from zero to suicide in 3.5 seconds like that.
