Forums - Microsoft - Master Chief to look a bit different in Halo 4, Cortana in danger once again

VG247

Details on Master Chief and Cortana in Halo 4 have been revealed through the latest issue of Xbox World.

According to an interview with 343′s Frank O’Connor, Master Chief’s armor have been given some “fairly radical modifications” some of which are “connected to the story,” and the fact he’s been in space for such a log time.

Also, Cortana is once again in danger, but this time it’s because her expiration date is looming.

“Seven years is the lifespan for a smart AI before it enters a state called rampancy,” said O’Connor. “Cortana was getting close to the end of her natural lifespan at the end of Halo 3 but she has been exposed to far more information than any other AI in existence.

“She’s going to develop some muscle from that process but it also contributes to her rampancy – that much information makes things worse.”

Halo 4′s story, the first in the planned trilogy, will focus on the Forerunners and is something O’Connor hopes will bring back “the sense of wonder and mystery” to the Halo series.

“We’re definitely going back to that air of exploration, and putting in some surprises that I think people will like,” he said.

Halo 4 is slated for a 2012 release.

A little off topic;(but thinking about halo brought this question back)
what ever happened to the Sniper Spartan in Halo: Reach? it seems(or looked) like he got off the planet.

OT: don't mind if Master Chief of Cortana looked a little, I just hope whatever the changes are to Halo 4 i hope they aren't too drastic, Halo is probably the only FPS that I actually care for the story

Replaying the original in Anniversary makes me long for that sense of exploration and wonder I had the first time I played it. Played the original campaign several times, but it's been awhile, and I'm struck by how much more it seems to sort of feel like a "big place" compared to Halo 3 or Reach, even though those cover more ground in real terms. I hope they capture that.

Makes sense that Cortana would pass the time upgrading the Chief while they drift in space. Excited for Halo 4. Definitely my most anticipated game of 2012 so far. Just very curious to see what 343 does with the series to rejuvenate it without breaking it. Gonna be an interesting balancing act with a lot at stake for MS and the brand.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

The Silent Cartographer was a prime example of that.

Have you read the Fall of Reach -  novel? In the novel it depicts that all of the spartan teams bar one were deployed down onto the planet's surface, one team was send to retrieve something (Won't spoil it for you) but it had John in it - Master Chief, hence his appearance later on, but apparently everyone else on the planet have been lost - after all the planet was "glassed" shortly afterwards. Not sure if JUN had managed to escape or not - but apparently all ground teams perished.

Can't wait, especially if the forerunners really are in.
