Forums - PC - Mac or PC

We had quit a heated disussion today at university about which was better, macs or PCs, we decided PCs were best in the end.

But which do people prefer? mac or PC.

I myself prefer PCs because I like right clicking, installing software (without caring about compatibility) and using MS Word (non emulated)

Macs support right-click, middle-click, etc. Just buy a decent mouse and trash the one that comes with the hardware.

Also I run Microsoft Office on my Macs all the time... non emulated (http://microsoft.com/mac). It even looks/runs better than the Windows version.

Guess it's easy to have Windows win when there is no one with knowledge about Macs. Well, I love my Macs

You prefer right clicking (that I do on all my Macs), running MS Word non-emulated (that I also do on all my Macs) but over here I prefer:

1) using the Web without worries about spyware and malware

2) not have virus and/or virus checkers

3) not having spyware and/or anti-spyware software

4) stay away from crappy registry problems and explorer slowdowns

5) keep my hardware running at max performance wihtout having to re-install the OS every 3-6 months

If not for my job (where I have to use both Mac and Windows) I would never use a Windows PC again.

I dual-boot Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha-1 and Windows XP Pro SP2. Macs are overpriced, just like all Apple products.

The Board is the best site on the Internet.

^ true, my last iPod was a rip off, but I was young and brought into the iPod name

The new one was a good price though

^ I think word is the standard in word proccessing, everyone has easy access to it when they get a windows PC.

Also a lot of people are not smart enought to look elsewhere

No, the standard (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) costs $400 and the full Microsoft Office costs $680.

So, you actually have to buy it when you buy Windows.

Or, OpenOffice.org is free and prompts you to install it when you upgrade Java (which most people do).

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

How is Hardy Alpha? Have you had to fix breakage yet? I'm thinking of upgrading to Alpha from my Gutsy installation.

^^ not what I meant, it is the first thing people look for when they get a standard PC

To the OP, the Macbooks do have right click, you just place two fingers on the touchpad. You can scroll that way too. Just drag both fingers down or across the pad, and it acts like a mouse wheel. I like it much better then my PC laptops (I have a few).

Go look at the specs of a MacBook, and then go to Dell and price out the same specs. You will find the Dell cost more. The Mac are not overpriced for what you get, they just don't offer a low-end model.

I was a long time Mac hater. Once Unix became their underlying OS, and Intel there CPU, I bought one. I got it mainly to play with the OS, and then wipe it for XP/Linux (I just wanted the hardware, as it was far better than any other PC laptop I could find). After playing with the OS and learning it, I find it far better than Windows for most everything.

I have the best of both worlds - a PC running XP Pro, a PC laptop with XP Pro and about a dozen iMacs with OS 9 and OS X. If you pay for shipping ($35), I'll ship you an iMac (you'll need to buy RAM and a keyboard - and you need an OS as well). The first PM gets it. Just Paypal me the funds and your address.

PM me if you are interested. Can't ship outside the U.S. either.

Well, yeah. You'd think free, better and more exposure (Java) would do it, but apparently not.

I prefer Word (not that paid more than $10 for it...you can get Microsoft applications including Windows for less than $20 as a student), and I prefer being able to play games.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
