There's morally permissible and then there's morally optimal. Quite a few moral codes would find allowing somebody to kill himself permissible, but pretty much all of them would agree that stopping him is morally optimal.

To put it another way, it's not wrong if you don't stop a suicide, but it's most right if you do.

There is no such thing as an absolute moral code.

You'll note that I used a plural there. If I acknowledge more than one, it's implied that no one of them is absolute.

I'm not looking to get into a debate on moral absolutism vs. relativism. I'm not even sure if I have a position to argue in that debate, since both ideas seem to have their share of problems.

Personally, I never for any reason get involved in other peoples business. I would never think twice about a suicide, and I definitely would have never interfered in the first situation.

There is no right answer written in stone, so it should not be against the law.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

It would be wrong not to at least try and talk them out of it imo

Atleast in America, it would have been illegal for you to let him die. This law was created when a man was mugged in NYC and it took 40 minutes for someone to call 911, even though thousands passed by on the busy street.

NO!!!! Ofcourse not :S

I know, but your conclusion impies there is a right way and a wrong way, which is false. But I agree, let's not get into a messy debate.

I do personally feel it's wrong if someone can't physically or mentally intervene. They're are too many things in life to miss out on..... but then again, not everyone has that opportunity. Spending some time with seriously ill patients could possibly change their minds.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

Let them. If they think their life is so worthless that they can just throw it away after a bit of a reality check, let them. I've had friends say that they have contemplating suicide. I would not stop them, it's their life, their decisions. However, if they are drunk/high/stoned and they are about to do something suicidal, like jump from high place, try to jump over a moving car, dumb shit like that, I'll be the first one to step in.

I really hate people like that. My best friend told me what i thought of him committing suicide, I told him that I would lose any respect I had for him and I would simply forget i ever met him. I don't wanna remember that somebody whom I consider a brother and that I look up to would do something so fucking stupid as to commit suicide (unless of a terminal illness, completely different scenario).

I just can't think how you can let someone take his/her life in front of you. Of course I'd talk them out of it, or even physically stop them! It's my instinct that will react not my mind in this case

No.
