Forums - Nintendo - Twilight Princess Appreciation Thread

It was certainly the most disappointing Zelda, it is sort of the Zelda equivalent to Mario Sunshine - not a bad game, but not of the high standards usually demanded of the series.

Where it lacked was in the fun-factor zone, the game had a few fun things to do, but the other Zelda games were generally always fun - except maybe Windwaker which also had a few really strange portions, like collecting 17 triforce pieces by sailing all over the place and lowering a crane -. There were lots of uninteresting portions in the game, particularly the part where you had to turn into the dog to sniff around things, and collecting 10-40 of these weird moon tear things before you could enter dungeons; that is ultimately what drove me away from the game, as soon as I saw that I had to do that YET AGAIN before the Sky Temple, I put the game down and almost thought the time of great Zelda games was over.

I don't think Twilight Princess is terrible compared to mostly all other similar games, because I tend to put them down too when I see such mechanics; but when I think of Zelda, I think of a game series that should always be the best of the action adventure genre, and Twilight Princess wasn't.

For those who are saying it is too much like Ocarina of Time, this isn't correct: Ocarina of Time had better locations, better side characters, no dog-mode, better dungeon design, and is just a whole lot more fun-focused that Twilight Princess which seems to sacrifice fun for making things wider and take longer to do. The advantages Twilight Princess has over Ocarina of Time are few, and are essentially in certain sub-weapon functionalities, better horse battling, and more polygons (but Ocarina of Time had a better art style, Twilight Princess was quite drab).

The biggest problems I felt with Twilight Princess were monotonous tasks (involving moon tears and doing tasks with the dog), the world and dungeons were stretched out too much without really much more to do (just bigger space to cross); it just ultimately felt like they fluffed the game up, they put a 10-15 hour game into a 50 hour package. Now, I am not saying that other games don't do this (it's true, most adventure games do) - I am saying that Nintendo games generally don't do this. This Zelda game epitomized the Gamecube era, it was filler.

I really liked TP, it is a great game. Loved the art style, the wolf sections, the story and the characters.
The controls were okay (Played the Wii version) and sometimes I got stuck with little to no guide of what to do.

To me is the third best zelda game, although I'm not a big fan of the series

PD: Besides how can you not like this moment? One of my favorite of all time

what are you reffering too? I just beat sky temple today and the only collectathonesque thing I had to do to get in was find the 3 plant creatures.... Which were each hidden by a puzzle. You know the point of Zelda, beat puzzles to advance to bosses beat bosses to open up more puzzles which lead to the next boss. Its fun.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

i love TP but i love SS more. TP was too easy and had a disappointing end and i also did not like being a wolf. I want to always be Link.

sure i miss the riding and huge world and the way too travel to get to those arias was fun and hope we get that in the Next Zelda.

SS bosses were amazing and you had to work hard too kill them while TPs Bosses only took three hits and they go boom! LOL every time i dies in SS i smiled because i knew i had to work harder and be more careful to beat them! can't wait for Zelda Wii U!

i love all 3D Zelda games but my fav is SS fallowed closely by OoT then TP, WW and MM

I loved the art style of TP.

Fixed that for you there.

As for topic.  A mixed review from me.  Out of all the zelda's it felt the most sequalish to Ocarina of Time, even considering Majora's Mask.  So it gets points for being connected to Ocarina in that aspect.  The art style is about as different to any other zelda game ever made.  Skyward sword looks more like Ocarina of Time than Twilight Princess.  And Skyward Sword looks more like Wind Waker than this game as well.  This is like the odd one out of all Zelda games, even though HD fans will try to tell you differently.

I didn't like being a wolf, felt like I was playing Okami to unlock an area.  Okami was good, but again not a huge wolf fan, like being human.  Twilight had some awesome gear, being the double claw shot thing, and the huge ball and chain.  Horse fighting was awesome.  The story I also liked and Zelda was just badass in this game.  I loved her sword and loved how she fought with you and had the Light Arrows.  And also the final fight, the one on one fight with Ganondorf was the best

I agree with Jumpin, this is what I said in another thread:

I liked the final battle(s) with Ganon, specially the last one. I always wanted a sword vs sword fight and this was it. Sadly, it was very easy. During all the four battles I never had the need to use a fairy or medicine, while in OoT even the first Ganon could be kicking my ass. I really don't like this, I mean I don't want him to be impossible to beat but at least something more challenging, the way it is just make it a forgettable battle imo.

I liked the game, but I thought it was a Good Zelda game, not Great. The beginning was very slow, the character design was weird, some musics were really bad, it wasn't challenging and I never could get in the story. I may sound like Malstrom but I really think developers here tried to be "so creative" that it was all messed up. OoT and WindWaker story may be simpler and even if you know what to expect it was really good. Here I felt they tried to surprise us with their creativity but instead I had a lot of "WTF is that" moments o_O

I remember reading someone said that for the first time in a Zelda game they cared for the other characters in the story.... for me it was the opposite. At the end in the credits, seeing all people returning home safely, I just couldn't care less, I didn't feel any connection like in other Zelda games.

It may sound like it was a bad game for me, but no, I really liked it and for a strange reason I want to play it again (maybe I'll like it more the second time). I just have this feeling that even if it was a good game, it's not a memorable experience like the other Zelda games.

Castlevania Judgment FC:     1161 - 3389 - 1512

3DS Friend Code:   3480-2746-6289

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

Hopefully the game finally gets lifted the shadow of "Ocarina of Time 2.0". It is similar, but has it's own flavor. I liked the twilight segments being a wolf and having Midna in my back.

After finished SS, and looking how many people is ranking Zelda games, I will say mine:
SS=OoT=ALTTP>MM>TP>>WW>Zelda1=Zelda II
(all played this year)

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

But that was never true sword fighting… it was waggle if you played it on Wii and just button pressing on GC

The true sword fighting is in SS and if you love sword fighting as you say then you will love SS. don’t tell me you haven’t played the game or even got it yet :-O

Best Zelda game I've ever played.

Best game I've played this gen so far.

This is why I can't wait to my vacation at January to play its successor.
