I feel sorry for Xbox games who just play CoD, as they are spending around £60 on this and Gold combined, especially when this doesn't really serve that much purpose
While they do save money on maps, the maps are double the price that they should be in the first place, so I don't really see the benefit...

I call your stealth trolling here.
What is the best selling franchise on PS3? What are the top selling games on PS3? What are the top most played games on PS3? What are the fastest selling games on PS3?
PS; the answers are COD, COD, COD, COD.
Everyone plays it, no matter the demographic, and everyone is equally likely to buy the Elite service, no matter how useless it is may appear to you. Singling out 360 users in this particular case is just stealth trolling the Live service tbh.
It's peoples choice, and really $60 is chump's change, it works out like 6 days for $1, it may add up in the end but so's putting 20 cents every day into a jar. It really doesn't have that big of an effect that people keep claiming it does.
I'd rather pay $60(£25) for service that has solid record of stability in the last few years than the service that is plagued with downtime maintenance or is pretty much unstable for most multiplatform major releases - COD/BF/FIFA.
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Well you are paying $60 on top of $60 for the game in the first place
The Elite service is effectively to fund playing CoD for a year. Activision wants a subscription service to take advantage of their userbase in the same way that Blizzard does with WoW. Xbox users already pay for a subscription service to play their games online, PS3 users don't, that is the difference.
Also, I just subconsciously moan about Xbox Live Gold because I object to being unable to play 1/2 of the game that I have paid for in many cases. Also I would rather use a service that works well for all well made games when I don't play online that much, and always complete SP first giving me extra time to wait for the issues to be ironed out

Well how can you moan about something being free I suppose, if the tables turn and Sony realizes the amount of lost revenue in the subscription charges that they could have charged this generation then expect the same for PS4.
$60 is nothing = it's a new release at most, taking into account that those same players are likely to buy all of the 4/5 DLC coming out. Also it says 49.99 on the site;

Really, I personally wouldn't but nor would I troll the people that would go the extra mile to purchasing it, a lot of people play COD and COD only, instead of buying different games like 3/4 games a year they just buy COD. Add Elite on top of that, they're saving more money than you.
Subscription service is here to stay, just because Sony wasn't in the position to start charging fees untill much later (PSN+) doesn't make it any better of a console, because it's hard to deny there is a lot of money to be made in it.
Instead of trolling XBL why don't you just put around 25c into a jar every day for a year, then there you have it. Chump's change in most cases.

I think so, it seems to be Halo Waypoint, but I'm not sure, I still have to finish the offline part before going online.

Elite is free.

Free Elite is free, Premium elite is premium... The thread title saying that 1m are paying for it kind of implies that they are not talking about the free version
I think a large chunk of the "paid" elite accounts are from it being included in the $99 limited / special edition release at launch. Which also saved the user $10 based on buying it separately as the Premium Elite is $49; I signed up to the free version of it and to be honest I wasn't impressed at all. (I was able to finally gain access to it though two weeks after launch)
The only real benefit I to it in my opinion is that you will have access to all the DLC which seems worth it for many people that I know because the price of the map packs are costly and they play COD at least several hours a week.

PSN users get the DLC for free just like XBL users, they just get it one month later...
