Both MS and PS3 care about 2nd place, but they both care more about ending this gen (meant not as when next gen launches, but when current one ceases production) with overall profit, neither of them will sacrifice profit for 2nd place, both will do their best to sell as many HW and SW units as possible while remaining overall profitable (selling at an overall loss would be quite easy, but not very clever). Both will be willing to sacrifice a small part of profits, though, to make their brand stronger when next gen launches. And then there is MS spending for Kinect marketing more than what the device will ever earn, to deny all these common sense reasonings (except that MS cares for ranking high, that instead is proven true even more incontrovertibly).

Sony and MS are both winners. Fanboys are the real third place here folks.

By branding yes its due to MS not having any Japan specific content with the origional Xbox. Bad branding lead to 360's slow crawl. So ya, "shooter console" to put it simple. O well, when comparing 360 sales to Xbox sales in Japan its progress.

As for your other points......you pretty much agreed with me, even adding that PSN was inferior.

The 360 will stay comfortably in the lead from now on.

Next year MS will initiate a huge sales cut to spur sales of the 360 before release of the next Xbox (whether that is in 2012 or 2013, who knows). They will be able to cut the costs AND still remain profitable on a $100 cut or more because they have had 3 years without a price cut and 3 years to reduce costs. Make that 3.5 years by the time the actual price cut takes affect.

PS3 is at a point where it cannot lower in price much more for the remainder of the generation. One more $50 cut is the lowest I see it going before the absolute bargain bin slashes that will come after the PS4 is released. It is just simply an undeniable fact that the PS3 costs more than the 360 to produce and always will, this means they should NEVER be the same price (or in this situation, the PS3 being cheaper in the US when comparing the similar models) unless MS is making a lot more profit or Sony is taking a much bigger loss on hardware. Sony is in a much worse financial situation than MS and must focus on profits now if they wish to stay a viable company going forward.

The Japanese played Racing, Rpg's and a bit more last gen so you are in fact wrong about MS "not having ANY japan specific content" last gen

so they indeed had japanese specific content but it still didn't do anything for them last gen. Xbox 360 OVER delivered with japanese content this gen and it STILL didn't really do anything for them(just like last generation)

Your origional comment would make more sense if PS3 sold as bad in NA as 360 sells in Japan, but that isnt the case.

it really doesn't matter in this case because xbox had some games and it didn't do anything for it that generation.360 got the same games and more but it still didn't do anything for it and that's that :)
