So, I recently saw this thread (http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=136742&page=1#) and I started to think:

What if Final Fantasy is getting too modern? Do we really want it to become action games? Are the roots relevant nowadays?

Most of you may remember old classics with a lot of love, and think of new games... well... with not so much love.

Thid battle represented  lot to gamers, and many of you remember it with a lot of love, it was all or nothing, save the planet.

Now, look at this:

You may not remember this with a lot of love, why?

Maybe the story was not as compelling, do you think it would be much better if we had those world in the edge of destruction stories back?

Now, maybe we should get rid of those odd, really pretty characters, honestly, who do you miss the most?

or ?

I think I know the answer of most of you.

Now, the gameplay.

Do we really want our games to be more of action and less of heavy turn based battles? Was it the series success? Do we really want a FF acton game? Or a FPS ?

Comment and debate here.

I agree that the more epic world ending stories are way better like in the FF with Kefka and FFX and FF7.

Lol the final boss on FFXIII was lame as all hell, he's crippled and didn't even do a single thing before your party kills him, poor orphan , Forever alone.
FFXIII was a lot similar to FFX in it's setting, even the final boss was lame on FFX , but atleast that one actually had a backstory , and was a spirit, instead of a crippled godly figure.
Seymour was better than Barthandelous, Barthandelous was just trying too hard to be interesting. i guess the whole game was trying too hard to be like FFX , the guys who made it didn't want to steer too much from FFX's style, but thats where they actually went wrong, people who enjoyed FFX wanted something new, not the same thing different skins.
from what i've seen , they are doing it right with FFXIII-2 , so i don't mind changes, infact i really DONT want them to remake the formula over and over, like Mario for example.

While I do prefer the more traditional settings, the modernized settings aren't why the new FF games suck compared to the classic ones. The classic ones actually had characters worth remembering while the new ones you remember what they look like but that's about it-- they're soulless.

One this I think FFXIII did better than previous FF games was voice acting (in regards to those that had voice acting). FFX had fairly decent voice acting at the time, but FFXII was awful in my opinion. Now character development/back-story and what not is a different story. In earlier FF games, each character had a fairly in-depth back-story. FFXIII not so much. I personally thought the battle system was pretty decent other than the time for that first paradigm shift. They do need a more original ability system. The crystarium really was just a bad rip off of the sphere grid and the license system in FFXII kind of was too but not quite as bad. A limit or overdrive would be a good thing to bring back too. I know in FFXIII each character had a unique special move, but that really does not do it. You could not even use it until you had six ATB slots. Lastly, the linearity clearly needs to go. That was the biggest downfall I think. FF is known for its various towns and cities. The story was alright, but as the original thread states, FF needs to return to the brink of destruction kind of deal. One last thing, FFXIII's music score was phenomenal. It might be my favorite behind FFVII.

I do not want an action game, Final Fantasy must stay an RPG.

- The series needs to go back to its open world roots, FF XIII was far to linear I couldn't be bothered to play it after 10-12 hours.
- I also prefer a turn based battle system as I feel it gives me greater control over my party, both XII and XIII resulted in a lot of button mashing... just because it worked.

I hope Square takes gamers opinions into consideration when creating new games, I feel FF XIII may have been the worst in series.
