Lol the final boss on FFXIII was lame as all hell, he's crippled and didn't even do a single thing before your party kills him, poor orphan , Forever alone.
FFXIII was a lot similar to FFX in it's setting, even the final boss was lame on FFX , but atleast that one actually had a backstory , and was a spirit, instead of a crippled godly figure.
Seymour was better than Barthandelous, Barthandelous was just trying too hard to be interesting. i guess the whole game was trying too hard to be like FFX , the guys who made it didn't want to steer too much from FFX's style, but thats where they actually went wrong, people who enjoyed FFX wanted something new, not the same thing different skins.
from what i've seen , they are doing it right with FFXIII-2 , so i don't mind changes, infact i really DONT want them to remake the formula over and over, like Mario for example.
