Wow. Some of you guys really can't seem to read. xD

Confirmed: Less emphasis on CGI cut-scenes. They'll use real-time for most of them. Heck, it's written up here in the OP. X_x

Confirmed #2: The 360 version of the game will come on a single disc.

It doesn't say less emphasis on CGI cut-scenes.

No?

Well, I'll quote: "With 13-2 we've been trying to make the most of the movie scenes with real-time rendering so that the gap between the two is a lot smaller."

Like I said, it says nothing about CGI cutscenes, you seem to have misunderstood.

There are three "types" of cutscenes. You have real-time cutscenes, pre-rendered cutscenes that use assets from the game (or slightly more detailed ones) and lastly you have CGI cutscenes.

There are 6 hours worth of video files in Final Fantasy XIII, CGI only makes up an hour of it.

They are talking about making pre-rendered scenes that use up disc space like this...

...run in real-time.

Nope, they're talking about cinematic scenes in general not being made in CGI.  They never differenciate the 3 types of cut-scenes like you do.  When they mention their new general approach, they specifically state the reason why the game will fit on a single disc on the 360 by explaining how real-time rendering (as in, not a video file, but directly streamed like all the rest of the game's graphics) will be replacing the CGI of yore.

But since you will understand what you want from what is written in the OP, let me point you to an other link, where things are worded much more clearly for you:

"Game director Motomu Toriyama told Famitsu that use of more real time cut-scenes and less reliance on the prerendered ones that FFXIII was so fond of has helped reduce the amount of data on the disc."

Now I'm sure you know the difference between real-time rendered and pre-rendered.

Pretty much almost every great game this generation does not hav CGI or FMV:

1.Assassin's Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood .

2.Mass Effect

3.Mass Effect 2 (does have some but very few)

4.Metal Gear Solid 4

5.Uncharted 1, 2, 3

6.Batman:Arkham Asylum

7.Batman: Arkham City

8.Dragon Age: Origins

9.Valkyria Chornicles

10.God of War 3 (only on intro)

11.Infamous 1, 2

12.Gears of War 1,2, 3

13.Halo 3

14.Crysis 1, 2

15.The Witcher 1 (only on intro)

16.The Witcher 2

17.Heavy Rain

18. Zelda Skyward Sword

19. Mario Galaxy 1,2

So, after  playing all these great games, why does CGI or FMV matter?

They started to rely way to much on them for my liking anyway.  Sure, they're impressive, but if they can achieve a similar level of epicness by using clever real-time graphics tricks, then I'll be just as impressed!

Back then, they were using that kind of tricks with sprites, on the SNES, particularly with FF VI.  And it is still my favorite in the series despite it's lack of any uber grandiose CGI cut-scenes.

Re-read my post...I don't even understand your point.

The video I posted was PRE-RENDERED, there are many pre-rendered cutscenes in FFXIII that look similar to the in-game graphics, roughly a total of 5 hours. THAT is what they want to get rid of.

They haven't specified if they want to get rid of CGI too, but why they would want to get rid of most, if not all, of the CGI cutscenes when they only made up 1/6th of the total video file sizes in the case of FFXIII?

From the looks of the trailers, CGI is as plentiful as it was in FFXIII. What I want to know is how much this CGI will suffer on the Xbox 360 version considering they want to cramp it onto one DVD.
