Considering we're looking at a games console, the APUs aren't a bad bet. The CPUs are becomming less important to gaming needs with more work being shifted to GPUs. In your comparison, the APUs are pretty good and a decent APU will outperform a similarly priced i3 w/HD4000 graphics.
Now if you couple an APU with a discrete graphics chip and cross-fire them then you have a fairly decent gaming setup for low cost.
